I may be crazy, but I know I've been clocked before while speeding on the MGX. I have a radar detector and it usually informs me that "it's too late". But, I've never been pulled over on it. I have been pulled over several times on the Stelvio's I had and kept my attorney friends on speed dial.
This morning on my way to work with the cruise set on 80 (in a 55), I come over a crest to be face to face with a trooper in a shaded pull-off. He clocked me as indicated by my detector but didn't pursue at all. Had this been the first time, I would have thought that he probably just had better things to do. But, this is not the first time this has happened, leading me to believe that either:
A. They think I'm on some sort of spaceship and don't want any part of it.
B. This thing with the clean 'no lines or creases' bodywork with flat black and carbon fiber actually dampen radar signals.
C. He was sleeping on the job.
D. I'm just continually lucky.
Either way, I'm cool with it :thumb:
BTW, 1 year of ownership today and I still couldn't be happier. Close to only 7,000 miles. Sure wish I had more time to ride than I do. I do get to ride it work a few days a week, though that only puts on about 35 miles a day round trip.

I'll take door number C, Alex..

Hmm , aren't stealth aircraft built using CF ?

I'm sure it's the radar absorption material used in the construction. Shows up as an unladen swallow. It's hard to estimate airspeed velocity you know.

A town policeman once told me he couldn't pick up my '83 Yamaha Vision 550 -- the one with the sleek factory fairing -- until I was extremely close to him. Seemed like stealth technology to the two of us. He let me go.
So I think your conclusion is plausible.

I'm with you Chuck --- Door "C". 80 in a 55, let's see -- I'm guessing $200. and half the points on a driver's license.

Of course its doesn't hurt to be stealth and motos are pretty good at that(all of them).
I don't know about that. I got stopped by the State Police in NE Colorado a few years ago on the Stelvio -- 74 in a 65, was given a warning ticket, a very nice young man. After he gave me all the paperwork, I asked him what he had clocked my speed. He answered the 74, which is what was showing on my GPS when his lights came on.
-
Was he on the side of the road with a pistol grip? Or right in front of you with no other traffic. As a habitual speeder I have run the course on these things and the new ones are better but if there are larger targets its hard for the device to discriminate the small frontal area of the moto and there is a good chance it will pick up the largest moving target.
Don't want this to turn into a heated debate but after traveling the roads in the states I would not have a lic if not for ECM stuff.
My experience, not hear say.
No point in this I guess, NO one will change my belief on this.
So..uhh.. what kind of ECM gear are you running?
:-)

I was solo. Not a soul around. He must have been sleeping :-)

I think you've achieved success!
On my Convert I always "sneak up" on those radar signs that show your speed. If one does see me, it's as I'm going past it. Usually they remain dark. It annoys me, since they are a convenient means of checking your speedoneedle. I attribute that to the size XL windjammer. It sheds more than wind. And NOBODY is going to change that belief! :boxing:
I crested a hill on the trike the other day, and passed a lurking radar unit at well over the postit note. I could see the officer in the car watching me with a disbelieving expression on his face. I think he was so involved with trying to unsee what he saw that he didn't check the radar machine.

He probly recognized you!

I would love to be able to just enjoy riding my bikes without constantly worrying about getting a speeding ticket.

Uh what was the line in the movies??
"If I told you then I would have to kill you!"
Ha! just foolin' about!!!
I was kinda afraid of that.. It could come in handy, though..

The nice thing about older guzzis is that you need to make an effort to speed and they are comfortable on 2 lane roads at 60 mph. not much chance of accidental speeding tickets as on modern bikes.

I've told this story here before, but it is always fun to retell it. I was riding with some of the SoCal hooligans on 166 near Santa Maria California. We were at least 30 mph over the limit when the party lights flashed on behind us. We pulled over expecting serious fines when the Chippie flew past us and nailed some soccer mom in a mini SUV.

I used to think my 94 Concours was hard to detect, the V11 seems to be pretty easy though.

In 2011, Grebmrof and I were returning from our ride to Montana and other interesting points. We were riding on a road whose route number was familiar to us (US20) since it runs thru Ohio.
I decided to pass a tractor trailer on this low traffic road, and dropped a gear or two and hit it. About that time, a car coming toward me was closing much faster than I anticipated, so I hammered it to get around the truck.
Of course, the car coming toward me was a Nebraska Highway Patrol. Greb was riding a ways behind me, far enough the trooper made one of those emergency brake turns, smoke coming off his tires.
Of course, I'd already kept a close watch on my rear view mirrors, and was pulled over on the shoulder more than a few seconds before the gentleman arrived.
Greb approached us slowly ..... I waved him on, knowing he'd wait for me at the next convenient stop.
There was no 'do you know how fast you were going?'
I was handed a piece of paper ........ it was a warning, not a ticket.
Now I'm curious "...... how fast was I going?" It wasn't on the warning.
Trooper "...... if I told you that, I'd have to give you a ticket ...."
"But I will give you a tip ..... don't get pulled over again today for speeding in Nebraska."
"Yes Sir!"

Assuming the MGX is similar to my 1400 Eldo, it is actually fairly accurate. About 3 mph off in the indicated 70 mph range. The odo is very close to my GPS, within about 3/10ths per tank. The other Cali's I had were 11.66% optimistic. (White face Veglia.) 80 was really about 72/73 mph.

The MGX is very accurate. GPS indicated 80 will read 78 on the speedo.

I regularly peg the throttle when I see one of those signs, I might even do a little weave to try and make my profile bigger.
But on pretty much all the bikes it doesn't register my speed until I'm almost past it.
Doesn't matter if I'm all along on the road (and the sign is off/reading nothing) or there's other traffic around and it's reading their speed (which is obviously different because I've pegged the throttle and I'm either closing or pulling away rapidly).
In a only tangentially related note. Having recently added the Police King to the fleet I didn't have extra velcro tabs for my EZ pass so I either kept it in my jacket breast pocket or even tried strapping it to my arm. But I noticed some of the EZ pass booths flashing "Toll Unpaid" or the like on a trip. So when I got home I checked the account and was surprised to basically see non of the tolls charged. I expected license plate violation tolls to appear in the upcoming month but it never happened. Then I realized that I placed a very large HB topcase over the OEM luggage rack/radio mount and that most of the tolls were EZ Pass Express so the cameras were all mounted up high. Must not have been able to see the plate at that angle.

Law enforcement use a number of systems to measure speed from rather archaic constant wave to Lidar (doppler laser based system). It will also come down to what the instrument its "tuned" to accept as a valid reading and reject elevation changes if the road it straight or curved although most law enforcement organisations have rules about using measuring systems on bends, if their people actually follow them thats another issue.
So it is possible a motorcycle may not reflect enough energy to be measured although I doubt the presence of carbon fibre would have much to do with it. The best reflectors of RF/Radar energy will be solid and have close to 90 degree orientation to the direction of travel. Stealth aircraft in the main simply deflect energy away from the receiver some absorption occurs but especially on something that is supposed to fly its not very practical. With aircraft like the F-22 and the F-35 (do we get to call this one the pig too because it might fly?) with newer radar systems etc simply been stealth is not enough, anyway I digress.
On a Guzzi the best reflector is the engine and probably the fuel tank if its metal so the other possibility is if your detection system (cough parking system that happens to coincidently mess with speed detection) is up in the fairing its likely it starts doing it job before the main reflector is able to give a good enough return for a reading. Or maybe you get lucky the guy/girl has met their quota for the day and CBF'ed.

The cop was probably texting his girlfriend...
I have found that just about every state will give you 6mph over the limit (except Ohio). Therefore, I ride at 5 over...

Here's a video for anyone deluding themselves into thinking their smaller profile or "aero" fairing is really fooling the speed gun. Starts at 5:00 for the relevant bits.

Its been a good two years or more since I have had rollers in anger behind me. So I just keep going, make your choices as wisely as you can, and roll on that throttle. A human being can have a whole lot of fun traveling from 0 to 90mph, and places in between! And I find the fun in amplified when doing it on a Guzzi!
-
This is mostly my Kansas experience. Most of the time that I might be in the ticket zone is on rural, very low traffic, extended visibility roads. When I have happened to have a meeting of a LEO along route I have been ignored, light flashed, palm downed signal, etc. but not stopped and I am usually 15-20+ over. I am thinking they guess I am still riding safe for conditions and my only threat is to myself.

I always liked the opening scene of "Second hand Lion". The dozing Leo with radar when the two old geezers in an ancient biplane flew under the overpass where he was and tripped the radar at over 100 MPH then gained altitude and escaped before he came fully awake.

There is a street that T-Bones into mine right where my house is and it has stop signs on all three corners. Since there is a major intersection that backs up during rush hour a lot of people have discovered my street as a cut through to avoid delay at the intersection. The speed limit is 25 but all these folks are in a hurry and drive 35-40+ and pretty much never come to a full stop at the signs. I look out my living room window with amazement at how many just blow through the stop signs without so much as a touch of the brakes.
So every once in a while the city will send a motorcycle cop to hide across the street to ticket those who do not stop. Much to my dismay it is rare that they ever stop a car and issue a ticket. It has to be a really flagrant violation to get them to go after someone. My guess...
Cops get lazy just like everybody else!

With all due,
The funny thing about that video is its not relevant.
This is a discussion about "normal" riders detectability while riding the byways and down the slab and meeting a police radar unit either on the move or in a stationary position, not focused efforts to bust ricky racers.
Completely different situation.
