Title: MAAC fly in NGC whatsoever
Post by: Chuck in Indiana on September 11, 2017, 01:35:25 PM
As in Midwest Antique Airplane Club. Once a year they hold a get together in Brodhead, Wi. It's like a Guzzi rally except for the tires we're kicking.
View from our camp.. Fairchild 24 and 30s Stearman Speedmail. It has a big hunker Wright radial on it..

I can normally name any airplane that is taxiing in, but had to go take a look at this one. It's the first I've ever seen. Wonderful visibility.. a feature that is normally missing on US aircraft.

There's a woods that borders two runways and people camp all around it. This guy from Canada eh? obviously has too much time on his hands, and has spent a *lot* of time on this homebuilt Pietenpol Aircamper from the 30s.

Famous airplane restorer Gar Williams rescued this Bolus travel trailer. It predates Airstream. He says it was one of the biggest projects he's ever taken on. Pretty thing..

A later model 90 hp Lambert than the one I have on the Monocoupe. This one has pressure lube rockers..

Want a 6am wake up call? Let me suggest an electric inertia starter winding down then that big Wright cyclone lighting off one cylinder at a time and settling down to about a 300 rpm syncopated idle. Harleys blanch with jealousy..
There were many more, of course.. this is just a sample.
Life is good..

Super cool stuff Chuck!!   Do you guys swap planes for an hour or is that verboten amongst pilots to allow another person to fly your plane?

It just depends on how well the owner knows you and your ability. Fortunately, I've been allowed to fly many, but sometimes it is a little daunting. "This is the only one. What if I prang it??"
You don't ask..

I was in the industrial area around Paine field today and got under a C47 landing.  It sounded ragged.

Just this one. You can see the club seating for 6 in back and the giant exhaust augmenter tubes. The pilot said it's not an airplane you just get in and fly. It has a *lot* of complicated just because vee can German engineering, and it's not particularly intuitive.

Thank you, Chuck. All favorites and the Dornier as well - is totally new to me.
Shoulda spent more time at private airfields in Europe, back in the day.
In your first picture: is that a white with red CAP 10B in the background.  R3~

It's an RV4 or 6. I can't tell. More than likely a 6 though.
