Had to put my Blue Heeler down today. Arthritis was just too painful. Mobility severely impaired.

From a playful pup to a matronly old lady, she gave me 16+ years of unconditional love. What more could a man ask?

Yeah, that would be tough on a heeler. They are active dogs! Very sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss Dave. 16 years is an awful good run.
It's been almost two years since I had to say goodbye to my chow chow mix, Betty (who looked like a little black bear). She was rescued from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina where she was found still tied up and treading water in a yard as the rope was cutting into the flesh under one of her front legs. The estimate from the vet was that she was 12-13 years old when it was her time. Boy, was I lucky that ten of those years were spent with me.
I'll think a thought for your Heeler today when I pass by Betty's picture on the shelf.

sorry to hear you lost a best friend. in a perfect world we'd all come and go at the same time so we wouldn't feel the pain of losing them.
I've had rescues all my life, never regretted a minute I've had with them.

Thanks on behalf of Rocksey for doing the right thing by her. Too many people force their dogs to live on, in pain and disabled, because they can't make themselves do without them. Dogs don't understand pain and disability, and the last and best thing you can do is to lovingly deliver them from it.
I've always wanted a Blue Heeler ever since Max Rockatansky's dog stood guard over the gyro pilot. That scene where he cut his eyes over to the rabbit, and looked back without twitching, is precious ... !

Im sorry for your loss, Dave. When you are ready, and you will know when that is..Get another "little girl" to spoil . Im sure Rocksey lived a wonderful life , full of love and affection, and treats, that many other doggies wish they had.
As tough as it is,You did the right thing at the right time, God bless you., Sir.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved companion. If you haven't already read it before, please take the time to read, "A Dog's Last Will and Testament". I know we said that we would never do again and went dogless for almost 2 years before getting Serena, our new bundle of joy. In retrospect don't know how we survived those dogless years.
Cheers, Tim

Sorry Dave. A good dog is a treasure.

My heart goes out to you, and yours on this sad day. I drive by the Humane Society 4 times a day, and I will drop in tomorrow to make a donation in Rocksey's name.

Sorry for the loss of your fur baby Dave. My Daisy is 10 now and I'm already dreading the day when her time is here.

Awwww man. I'm sorry. That is so hard. Sounds like you both had a great 16 years though; you did right by her. RIP Rocksey.

Thanks for the kind comments Gentlemen EDIT MINE and LADIES. Yesterday was rough, even knowing that we have been close for several months. When her quality of life deteriorated to the point that she wasn't having fun anymore, I was duty-bound to act. Putting Rocksey down was painful, but it was my last kind act toward my faithful companion.
But do not fear fellow pet lovers, I am not without canine companionship.

Augie Myers, whose namesake played with Doug Sham and the Texas Tornadoes. Augie was adopted two years ago from the local Humane Society.
We're both worn out after a long walk on the beach for some saltwater therapy.
Thanks again

Sorry for your loss. It is so difficult to lose a member of the family. Sounds like she had a good run, it is all we can hope for in this world. Toby and Lady send their best wishes as well.

I'm sorry for the loss of your buddy. I know it's difficult watching a very active friend be in so much pain.

Dave, I'm so sorry to read about Rocksey. It's so hard to help them along, even though you know it's the right thing to do. I lost 2 of mine last year and still miss them - MinPin age at least 16, and Golden Retriever mix age 19. I have a lot of dogs, but each one of them holds a part of my heart. Maybe there will be another stray hanging out at the American Legion. If not, you can always swing by the Foster Feathered and Furry Friends Ranch and pick one out. Actually, there's only one available, a 10-yr old poodle/maltese mix from Port Lavaca. She'd feel right at home in Galveston!

I've had many dogs over the years, last summer I lost "the one", a Britt named Bo. Reading this takes me right back to it. Man, it's tough. Glad you and Augie have each other for consolation. Don't know what my attitude towards the world would be without a dog to offer it's perspective constantly. I find it's not worth the trouble to find out.
I've got my own "blue" dog. This is Bo's brother from another mother, Brodie ( my daughter's idea, too close for me) May he channel a bit of Rocksey's steadfastness.
