Also have helmet and jacket for sale, when I get around to listing them in the classifieds

Uh? Everything ok???

Very generous of you. :thumb:

Yep
My regular helmet and jacket are not being sold...I did not crash!
The helmet I will be selling is a full face Bell Zephyr anthracite XL, like new that I have rarely worn (much prefer a 3/4) and the jacket a Triumph Tempest size 46 also rarely worn (still got the tags). That is incidental to the free offer.
I traded the V7 II for a dual sport and concluded doing any business with Freedom Euro Cycle in Las Vegas.
I was treated well by sales, parts and service, but someone claiming to be an owner (thought the owners were Brad and Mark Yuill) has irritated me, twice.
The V7 II served me well. Rode it to Clarkdale, AZ on Monday and back on Wednesday with 6800 miles on the clock. My praise for the bike has not diminished, but some dirt roads were beckoning.
However, some minor nagging items pushed the decision. Did a lot of thinking on the ride (steady 85 MPH, other than construction zones on I40 from Ash Fork to Kingman at 50+ MPG)
a. clutch area noise, with clutch released
b. needing 1/2 minute plus to "warm up" on hot starts...still inclined to think it may be related to heated O2 sensors
c. fuel filter potential issue...yep, it can be changed, but why should I have to do that for peace of mind on a bike under warranty.
d. soft bolt heads on valve covers
All very minor, but contributed to the decision. Still glad that I had the experience with Moto Guzzi.
Came close to buying a new 2014 Honda CB1100, but the price difference was too much and would have been less off-road capable than the V7 II.
No response yet to the free offer. I was sure that there were Las Vegas V7 / V7 II riders on this forum.

Well sorry to hear, but hope you enjoyed.
A. If you mean in neutral, that's normal.
B. Irritating but didn't Beetle have a map that solves it?
C. Agreed, but man I'm telling you the guys are overstating it.
D. Are they? I guess they might be, but I haven't had a problem in 5 years.
Of course you gotta follow your bliss which is all that matters.
So enjoy the new ride.
What did you go with?

Check his signature- 2018 Yamaha XT250(?)
Was still waking up, so I was on the phone. Can't see sigs on phone... well, not with the settings I'm using.
But thanks!

Kev is right about the fuel filter. I changed mine just to be safe and found it to be swollen and squishy, but very secure. I was unable to separate the two halves. Changing it is a simple and inexpensive job, other than maneuvering the damn filter assembly in and out of the tank opening. We have heard about a couple of failures, but nothing to worry about. Even a failure would only result in an inconvenience and possibly a tow. No lasting or expensive damage.
Please post your thoughts on the XT250. I have been considering picking up a tiddler for my daily 60 mile commute on city roads. I was leaning toward a CRF250, primarily because I have owned several Hondas and always had good experiences.

Happy to do so. It is coming from Utah in about a week.
I traded a 45 day old 2017 Yamaha TW200 in on the MG.
I went into the Yamaha dealer last Dec, looking for a XT250...they had none, but had a huge discount on the TW. I enjoyed the 800+ miles on it, and do not regret the time spent on it, other than being saddle sore on a160 mile ride.
BTW, the TW ran good out of the box, other than opening up the mixture screw on the TK CV carb.
Got it up to 77 MPH indicated on the highway. With an expected 10% error, it was probably a true 70 MPH.
The XT250 is reported to do low to mid 80s indicated.

I am too much of a preventative maintenance person to not open the tank to at least check if it is all metal.
And if I am going to do that, then I need to have one, if it is the hybird.

A. If you mean in neutral, that's normal. Thanks to this forum, I understand that it is "normal", but still annoying.
B. Irritating but didn't Beetle have a map that solves it? I think so, but the 800 mile service loaded an improved program, that made it tolerable.
C. Agreed, but man I'm telling you the guys are overstating it. Perhaps, but I go long distances in remote area.
D. Are they? I guess they might be, but I haven't had a problem in 5 years. I checked the valves when I was in Clarkdale, AZ. The right side was spot on, but one bolt kept me from getting to the left side.
-
Well hell, don't ever ride a dry clutch Ducati if you thought that was annoying lol.
As for the valve cover, I dunno man, better Allen keys?
I got into a habit years ago after stripping a torx on a Harley. I put a bit into each Torx or Allen and rap on the end of the extension with a mallet in case there's any threadlock or corrosion that might make it stick. It's probably nothing but voodoo but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Probably the real medicine is just making sure a high-quality bit is straight int the whole and while keeping pressure pushed downward against it as it is loosened.
*shrugs*

damn! I am from Canada so tad too far..
if you are a state or 2 closer, I would spend the weekend riding to ya...:P...more excuse to ride so why not...
Good luck with your new ride there!!!...
maybe you will miss the guzz too much and end up getting a Stelvio or something for off road LOL... :thumb:

I used Armstrong (U.S.A) 1/4 drive 5 mm hex from McMaster-Carr.
I keep a 1/4" drive ratchet on the bike, but not a 1/4" drive breaker bar...otherwise I would have smacked it while applying CCW torque.

Congrats on the Yamaha. My Yamaha FZ07 is an amazing motorcycle. Dislike chain maintenance though. The speedo on my Yamaha is spot on. You might want to check yours with a GPS.

Yep, I enjoyed belt drives on both Sportsters and LOVED the V7 II shaft drive...and the cornering...and the light weight...and the 5.8 gallon fuel tank...
My Bonneville had X ring chain and needed little attention the first ~6,000 miles.
On the XT250, I will probably go to O or X ring at the first rear tire change.
When I did 77 MPH on the TW200 on highway 95, I was in a 70 MPH zone and closing fast on a car, so it may have been somewhat accurate.
-
I think it important for V7/V7 II/V7 III riders to note that my decision is not much of a negative reflection on the bike.
I very much enjoyed riding it, but other factors were involved, such as dirt roads and the Las Vegas dealership.
I am very much done with Freedom Euro Cycle in Las Vegas
I was treated well by sales, service and parts.
I liked owners Brad and Mark Yuill.
Then I encountered Chris, who stated he was an owner (but not on the Secretary of State website for incorporation).
It went downhill when he moved my bike out of a parking space so that he could park his Jaguar in that space.
When I confronted him, he apologized, but his true attitude was displayed yesterday...since I probably embarrassed him during the first encounter.
It boils down to not wanting to further support his arrogant attitude.
Not going there anymore (for MG or Triumph) makes it 300 miles to nearest dealer.
BTW, although treated well by the service department, for the first service last Feb/Mar; getting things done while I wait (36 mile round trip) may be much more difficult. They buy tons of bikes on auction and the service department can get slammed, prepping them for resale.

Hey Doc, going smaller and lighter can be liberating. I just moved from Stelvio to 250cc Adv bike. No regrets. I still have a V7 for the open road but, darn, the 250 is a delight and makes me actually work with the bike when it gets to the twisties. Since I still have the V7 I'd like to lay claim to anything V7 related that you still want to get rid of. PM me with what you think it's worth and a shipping cost.

I would be happy to just give them to you, plus freight, but redhawk47 has already spoken for them, 4 posts back.
I do have a helmet and a jacket for sale in the classifieds on this forum.
If they do not sell before Oct 14, they go in a garage sale...so 1/2 way reasonable offers will likely be accepted.
Not really about the $, I just don't like to hold onto things I do not use.
-
While my V7 valve cover bolts were ok I had an issue trying to get the Stelvio ones off. Since I bought the bike used I suppose it was either previous owner or a shop that torqued them all to hell, they don't really need much at all to work and if they are tight the soft metal is easy to strip. Enjoy the XT250, a much different ride I would guess.

What 250cc adventure bike? I know there are 250cc dual sports, but until the '18 model year, I didn't know anyone had a 250cc adventure bike. Suzuki is doing a 250cc Veestrom. Kawasaki has the Versys X 300 and BMW is bringing a 300cc adventure bike.
-
Based on the sig looks like a 2018 Yamaha XT250.

Yep, I'd post a photo, but I have not yet taken possession of the bike...confirmed to be a 2018.

Interesting. Where are these bikes manufactured?

The RX3 Cyclone is attractively priced at $3.496, compared to $5,199 for a Yamaha XT250, but trading in my MG, I paid almost no sales tax in Nevada.
Pluses noted in Rhodan's link:
a. windshield
b. 6 speed
c. low fuel light
d. 4.2 gallon fuel tank
Negatives noted in the link:
1. weak front brake
2. oversprung
3. not rated for a passenger (might not matter for my younger grandkids in Arizona, as I am <180 and none of them currently are over 100 #)
4. 385 # (almost the weight of a V7 II) compared to 291 for XT250
Hope to get the Yamaha this week, meanwhile, file photo attached

That looks like a whole lotta fun! Good luck on your new wheels.

Expect to pick it up tomorrow, then take it on a 80 mile + ride to Red Rock Canyon, to start the break-in.

Doesn't look like much of a seat on the Yamaha. I had to put a Sargent on my KLX250S to tolerate anything more than 20 miles sitting.

I went 160 miles in a day on a TW200 and the last ~1/3 was painful!
460 miles on the V7 II was tolerable.
If I can get 220 miles on the XT250 to be tolerable, I will be OK.

Got it home about 5 PM
Removed all cowlings and got acquainted (assembly done well, other than minor OCD issues)
Adjusted clutch and front brake perch.
Replaced F & R turns with LEDs and brake/tail with LED
Mounted Seal-N-Air to left tool box under front left cowling (factory tools under right)

Hope to take it to Red Rock, tomorrow.

Looks like a lot of fun. I’m really jealous of you guys that have easy access to off-road riding areas.
