I'm helping a young local guy with a few simple mods on his new V9 Bobber. He wants to put on LED turn signals and possible an LED headlight bulb. Does anyone know if the CANBUS system will throw error codes if we do this?

I don't know for certain but I think CANbus is just used to transfer data from one digital device to another for example
ECU to and from dash
ECU to and from a stepper motor.
The left and right flasher lamps are fed from the dash so it's possible it's measuring the current but my guess it's just doing the flashing.

Canbus won't be involved unless something has changed radically, (Which I doubt.). The signals are controlled by the dash though and if you go to LED's will require a resistor in series with each one to prevent fast flashing and a failed globe warning on the dash.

Blinkies are switched by CANbus, but the actual lights are still 12V. You'll just need the correct resistance in series so as to not cause an error state. Some LEDS have it built in, some don't.

He's the engineer. Listen to him.
