So as the build thread sorta died when Photobucket pulled their stunt and after the quick video on first fire I just thought I'd post up a couple of quick pics of the 1100 with its clothes on.
Apart from firing it up again to get warm, drain the oil and drop the pan to look for chunks of big ends and mains, I decided I'm going to get the rocker covers redone. I had wanted them done in crinkle black powder coat and the coater returned them gloss. I had too many other things going on and just banged them on. Now I'm revisiting and going to get them coated the way I originally intended.
So a crinkle black, with the lettering picked out in silver but I have the option of getting the lettering picked out in any color and also toyed with the idea of white or red as well as the silver.
Your opinions please?

Apologies for the Mickey Mouse Ears the mirrors have been that way since I wheeled it in as access is a bit tight

I think they look fine just the way they are.
-
Thanks Chuck
Yeah the are Ok but I still think the crinkle on the 1000 is better, less blingy

Looks awesome! Where did you source the tank and how many gallons of fuel does it hold?
-
:embarrassed:
The bike is a Magni Sfida 1100i, the tank would probably fit on a Sporti frame as the frame is very similar but not identical to the Guzzi original
According to the bumf it holds 22 liters or 5.8 US gallons, it looks bigger than it is because there is a very large section up the middle in the rear to accommodate the airbox. However as the bikke arrived with pods & I changed to bigger pods the space is now used to house an LiFe Po battery
I have no idea if Magni still hold stocks of these tanks or not & it would not be cheap, it Aluminum alloy, IMHO a really nice thing but others (not on here) have said it looked like Guzzi tried to copy a Hyabusa and F****d it up
Either way I like all of Magni's creation guy was a true genius and his son is doing a pretty awesome job carrying on the tradition
-
I did mine red to match the paint, John. The covers (and Guzzi text) are different on the Sfida, I know, but it may give you an idea of what red lettering might look like (..ignore the measurements: these are pictures I took for Joe Caruso when he was considering making head guards, and he needed to know the amount of head-to-fairing clearance).
The bike's looking good, BTW!
Steve
ps. I now have a trio of flexible domed black/silver speedo overlays for you (see pic). If you pm me your postal address (again!) I'll send them out :thumb:

Thanks Steve
For the compliments, the information and especially that speedo convertor it looks awesome
You Oz is a peach it really is, Oh on that front Joe is considering having another crack at the head guards, pie in the sky right now but if I hear anything I'll drop you a line
Unless somebody comes up with something else I think I'll just go silver.
The problem is matching the powder to the red on the tank and I know from the fuel cap carry on with Oberon (who were absolutely first class in assisting) that if the shade is out just a little it doesn't look right.
He also does the crinkle in red, but same thing applies.
So in order to avoid a 3rd round, by which time the rocker boxes will have done more miles in the post than on the bike, I'm still leaning to contrasting colors and getting the silver
PM to you along shortly
John

The Sfida is gorgeous. Congratulations. Very well done. I see what you mean about the gloss black though. What about a matt/semi gloss clear to tone it down. I do like the scheme in your second post, but not sure if it would suit the Sfida. I don't believe more red w ould work well. The beauty in the Sports is in emphasizing that great lump of of the engine, and in the Magni the lines & colour of the tank and fairing. All else should be understated.it would probably be worthwhile playing around with a spare set of covers roughly until you get it just right.
-
She sure is pretty. What kind of coating are you doing? I've been thinking of having the covers on my LeMans SE project done.
-
Your bike looks exceedingly good John and :thumb: to the lettering. Are you going to do it by hand, yourself? High temp paint? Would like to do mine likewise.
-
Stunning!

The bike looks great. I like the crackle coating too. It's a small detail, but I think it would look good on your Magni. I'd lined up the following people (http://ctc-powder-coating.co.uk/) to do mine on my Tenni a couple of years ago. The price quoted was £30 each. Someone on the V11 site did it themselves and the finish looks good.

Jeez John. Have you no decency, some of us are trying to get to sleep. Now I'm all in a tizz.
What's a bloke to do now ?
-
Well thank you all :embarrassed:
I haven't done so much I really haven't except fart around and around till I got things the way I wanted, not for aesthetic values but because I couldn't get things to fit the way Magni did as I'm a bit of a sausage fingered clutz.............. .......then add in dollops of cash and stir vigorously.
The beauty of the bike, and it's all in the eye of the beholder, is down to Magni not me, most of the work was cleaning or refurbishing parts.
Malik
That's the finish on the 1000 and it looks good to me, (but Brain Sewell I'm not), Oh God and apologies but here comes THAT shot of the 1000 again

However silk was my second choice & if they had been returned in silk I'm pretty sure I would not be whipping them off yet again.............. .........sigh!!!

Thanks for the link to the V11 post, rather than take a chance with paint I'm going to somebody who knows what they are doing and the covers are going to Maldon as in your link, 35 now
Blavenie
The covers that are on in Gloss were done by hand and pretty quick and dirty, I don't have patience when it comes to paint. It's easy to do just apply lots and try to get it as neat as possible then lightly brush across with a sponge which has been lightly dipped in thinners until the residue on the top of the cover is removed. The thinners didn't interfere or attack the powder coat.
Oh there is one more thing I need to do and its get rid of that blue speedo, but the price of a Veglia Daytona speedo is just stupid, so I'm looking at options just now (but so far drawn a blank)

Thank you John  I love that Red Centrestand

John,
The round headlight RED bike is beautiful

You can customise your own speedo online at Speedhut. Cheaper than a used Veglia (I think only the mph countries got that blue horror), (and you wouldn't want a used ITI with their failure rate), and send them a gif file for the logo of your choice. Don't forget to tell them it's for a motorcycle so they'll add in a silicone seal. Check them out. You can spend many an hour there designing your own. Have some fun.

Both the 1100i and the 1000 is absolutely stunning!
I vote for crinkle black with silver or white lettering.

I agree I do not like the valve covers. The gloss overwhelms the red paint and does not work with the flat black headers. Not sure what I would like but I think crinkle would work.
Overall I like the whole bike but the covers should go.
-
Well they are on their way down to the coaters to get done in crinkle/crackle black, with silver lettering
I'll post up a picture when they arrive back and are bolted on
Many thanks all
John
