My Daughter's boyfriend is interested in this listing. Looks decent but whats with "salvage title" . I see this a lot but have no experience with one. Also he's a big guy around 6' 4" 230 lbs. Will a v7 be to cramped for him? TIA dave

It means at some time insurance co sold it after damage to it. It has to be inspected by DMV and attached different VIN to get a clear title most of the time.
Yes, he may be cramped, go to a dealer and try one out, cost nothing.

Here in Canada it means the insurance company have decided it's not worth fixing.
I bought a VII Sport like that, it had a few scratches on the muffler and a bent bar, broken headlight.
I fixed it up and it had to be inspected which my local bike shop got done for a small fee.
The title remains with the bike as a warning to new owners that it's been in an accident.
When I sold it I revealed it had been salvaged, if I hadn't the new owner could have come after me I guess.
I never thought you could get a new Vin No, I had no qualms about telling the new owner the history.
The present owner of your V7 may have had it re-inspected already.

That's a reasonable asking price...not a steal...for a bike with a salvage title. The damage looks to be minimal so I wonder why the insurance company declared it a total loss. Usually they figure that if it cost 80% of the current value to fix it's just not worth saving. Thus the salvage title. I do not see that much damage so I wonder how much has been fixed or just covered up. Stuff like the steering lock tabs might cause the frame to be toast as far as the insurance company is concerned. As for the buyer, I think that he is a bit big for this bike. I'm 5' 10" and wish for more room on what is an identical bike.

Back in the day, I bought the 600 mile Jack All as a total wreck with a "salvage title." You have to remember, if it has even a scratch on a part, it warrants a new one. It had a few scratches on both sides, a bent brake lever, and a broken valve cover. That qualified as a "total" wreck. I could have ridden it home if I had another valve cover.
Just the same, that salvage title goes with the bike and the resale value is considerably less.

Thank's gentlemen, I think the asking price seems high considering the unknowns. I will tell him to keep up the search. At least he has good taste looking at a goose. Or maybe he just wants to stay on my good side. I do think he needs something a little roomier. I hate to see these young uns make expensive mistakes.

Yeah but I betcha $3k takes it and it wouldn't be a bad first bike.
Yeah dude is tall so that's a personal thing he'd have to check that out for himself.

You're right Kev, it will be his first bike. In looking back ,I'm kind of glad all my early bikes at his age were Japan inc. Didn't cost too much to learn a lot.
On the other hand he'd look pretty good in red suspenders. :boozing:

I'm cool on it because not only is it a salvage title, but it's on the other side of the country.
For all that, I'd want to inspect it in person before I opened the wallet.

I here ya Joe. Wish I could be of more help to him. He's got a couple of buddies out there on crotch rockets and fortunately he understands a litre bike might not be a good first bike for him. Feeew!
