asking for info regarding v65 forks/headset fitting to a v50, I have chance of a complete v65 setup and as I have incomplete v50 setup would like to upgrade (if that's the right word) any info appreciated, thank you.
-
Should be a strait swap, they used the same frame. The headset of tapered rollers is a good upgrade from the ball set.
-
thank you. its appreciated :thumb:

It's pretty simple but it is not a strait swap - at least not from V65SP to V50 Monza (and I believe you will find it's the same on yours). The V65 steerer tube is about 25mm longer than the Monza's so it needs to be cut to length and rethreaded. Maybe the V50 triple trees could be bored for the V65 fork stanchions but it seems they would be weakened significantly.
The V65 fork tubes are also about 20mm wider center to center so you need the V65 axle and front wheel, or the spacers from it to put under the disk rotors. The spacing and stanchion diameter may also interfere with a fairing or headlight bracket.
Because of these complexities (and I'd recently rebuilt the V50 forks) I've not yet made the swap.
Post a report when you do it.

don't cut and rethread the stem yet. you can just make some cups for the tapered roller bearing conversion which needs a longer stem. you may get lucky
-
Ok thanks for the feedback, waiting for forks to arrive next week, will keep updated.

looks like a set of lario forks.
not the best choice, on these the front axle has been offset, to compensate for the 16 inch front wheel.
the added trail might do funny things with the handling of your v50 with 18 inch wheels.
only way to find out is to fit them..
-
oops

A guy on the Guzzi rally I have just been on had a very nice original Stornello. :thumb: He had put a Monza front fork and disc brake set-up on it. Did not get to discuss if there were many problems but it looked really good.
-
I am having trouble finding spindle/axle for these forks the left fork spindle hole is 25mm forks width outer to outer 210mm anyone know?

this is the lario spindle, will need wheel or with the assistance of my student friend from Colchester turn it down to fit v50 wheel?
-
located spindle but its not getting any easier, either need 40x20x12mm wheel bearings? or swap wheel.
-
that shouldnt be too hard

Please don't apologies, best news i have had today :thumb:
-
down again, although states 40x20x12 its actually 42x20x12, what's that all about? I guess there is no such size due to only 10mm difference between inner and outer dia. gutted.
-
have you tried the piaggio part number?
i actually have those 20x40x12 bearings in a bike.
-
tried that part number, although it states 40x20x12 it its really a 6204 which is 42x20x12, no idea why they do that, if you can check size of your bearing it would clear it up, been to all the bearing suppliers and that size appears not to exist?
-
Straight vs. strait. Hey, I don't make this stuff up.   Good luck on the swap. Heavier springs and thicker oil??? Lose some weight?

multi hosting (http://imgbb.com/)
made a couple of "jumbo" taper bearing housings so will be able to turn them down to accommodate whatever forks I eventually fit.

That's a nice fix.

not to pretty at the moment but plenty of meat to refine when ready, I will try my best to get these forks to fit, learning as I go, its what I do. got my theory test tomorrow fifty years have flown by since I failed my test on a motorbike here in wales 1965, I need to get a move on. if I want to get this guzzi on the road.

You should be doing the V9 build.
-
Nice petrol tank adaptation! From what model BMW did you pinch it?
-
k100 lt ,home made fender.

Ok, that was not so bad, steering head bearings swapped for tapered, modified 17mm rear wheel spindle, a couple of 2.5mm shims for discs, maybe 5x 80mm bolts for thicker disc space. :boozing: mmmmm irish stout. cheers.
-
Cheers. Attaboy..
