There have been some imaginative suggestions as a name for the proposed "new" V85.
Here's a couple...
Scoperta...(Discovery)
Percorso....(Distance)
Leggero.....(Light, nimble)
None of them are great, but if I HAD to choose one it'd be #2
Of course I'd like to see..
Suono.......(Beautiful sound)

Or do the mountain pass thing...
Moto Guzzi Livigno?
-
I'd call it: "Panorama"
Moto Guzzi V85 Panorama
Where do I collect my royalty checks?

That's the best one yet.
But translated to Italian, it sounds like a Pizza variety.
You can collect your royalty cheque at the release to the public party.
Mandello del Lario 2024.

Perhaps after Roman legions...the Felix or the Praetorian. Or Roman deities, like Apollo or Juno.
(This is why I dont name my bikes)

Apollo ? Hmmmm..
I guess that's apt, you could fill it with "gas" and pretend you went to the moon !
History repeats :embarrassed:

Dulinuff?

Call it....

I was thinking Tierra del Fuego .

The Moto Guzzi Montagna... means mountain in Italian.
Or the Alpino - meaning alpine
-
Destoquila...
:boozing:
Play with words with Desert Eagle in Italian...
either that or I was hungry for Tequila...

Reminds me of a joke......
Bubba and Bobby-Jo from Arkansas were young folk deeply in love .....(stop me if you've heard this one)
-
However it would appear in Eye Tie: The Greasy Mule. Or the ball bearing jackass.
-
....but back to the original naming question: DOLOMITE
....pronounced Doh-low-me-tee in the mother tongue..... just to weed out the non-cognoscenti.
-
Moto Guzzi Brutto.
-
Bastardo
-
I submitted to the website that they should name it the V85 Quota. I think Quota is an appropriate name since they will probably import about 200 and half of those imported will still be available as leftovers 10 years from now. I'd call it the V85 Geococcyx. Geococcyx is the Latin term for Roadrunner
It looks like a Roadrunner to me, which is not a bad thing. I was born in the city of the largest roadrunner in the world, so I'm partial in that sense.

Geo: land
Coccyx: cuckoo

I'd call it the V85 Geococcyx.
If it were a KTM, would it be called the BreakMyCoccyx?
-
The Moto Guzzi Montagna... means mountain in Italian.
Or the Alpino - meaning alpine
Montagna is a really good one. Alpino would work as well.
-
The marketing geniuses at Piaggio will probably name it NoVa

Just call it Oca : Goose in Italian! :thumb:

Yes! :bike-037:
Dolomite is both an Italian mountain range and a mineral that takes millions of years to form. It is a marine limestone similar to what forms the summit of Mount Everest. The name Dolomite has a good sport/adventure travel history at least since Triumph named a sports racing car "Dolomite" back in the '30s and raced it in the Monte Carlo rally.

Ronald McDonald. I know the paint scheme is a throw back to the Dakar bike but all I can think of when I look at the yellow, white and red paint scheme is Ronald.
-
There's precedent for that. After all there is the "Barbie" model KLR.
-
Bultaco used up all the cool names: Astro, Alpina, Metralla, Sherpa, Saturno, Matador...
-
In the spirit of Overlanding and Adventures:
Guzzi Avventura
Guzzi Sabbia (sand dunes)
Guzzi Tramontane (Northern Wind, or Somewhere over the Mountains/Alps)
Guzzi Odisseo (after Odysseus of Greek mythology, the ultimate adventurer)
-
I like Cloudbase's Bastardo!
But somebody here originally came up with Griffen, which I think i supper cool, but should be spelled Grippen, like the Swede Jet fighter.
Come on, MOTO GUZZI GRIPPEN, how cool is that!
-
Moto Guzzi 850TS (Terra Strada)

Advottocinque, as in “Adventure Eight-Fiddy.” And agree with JohninVT’s McDonaldland assessment. But someone photoshopped a plain white on red version on the other thread, and it looks sweet.
BTW, on the subject of Moto Guzzi updating things to compete in the 21st century, they need to get a non-Italian (or more sophisticated) mobile developer for their web content. I’ve tried to submit a name to their microsite via my US iPhone and iPad via 2 browsers (Chrome and Safari) and I️ wasn’t able to get the damn form to advance to the field where you can enter a name despite several tries. Kinda frustrating and lame if you’re gonna solicit a naming contest via US Facebook feed!

All good except# 2.
Sounds like something I heard a gynaecologist say once.

Yeah....something to do with a yeast infection.

Which makes me wonder...what the hell were you doing visiting with a gynecologist? :thumb: :thumb:
Sabbia was supposed to conjure up images of the Namib Skeleton coast with the orange sand dunes, but it seems to have been waylaid (pun intended)...
-
Uh.......maybe he was baking bread.

My experience 'zactly.
Moto Guzzi has, IMHO, fallen to new lows even participating in FecesBook.
Now....y'all kids get off my lawn!

Nuova Sporcizia
or just
Sporcizia
Everyone will think it is some kind of sport reference...it means DIRT
you have to love a language that can make even dirt sound glamorous.
Nuovo Sporcizia = New Dirt go figure

I wasn't visiting..
I was lecturing at a symposium.

I suggested the Ippogrifo.
It's the closest they've come to delivering on that promise. A more powerful smallblock (even if it's a new engine, not just new heads,) a monoshock suspension on a smallblock, etc.
And if they never deliver it, it'll be part of the Ippo legacy! :boozing:
