Title: Norge to 1200 Sport gauge swap?
Post by: MacGlennon on November 08, 2017, 05:26:13 PM
My persistent oil pressure light issue on my 2008 Sport has been diagnosed as most likely the fault of my gauges. Switch good, good oil pressure, continuity good up to the gauge cluster.
Gauges are stupid money even for used but was wondering if Norge gauges would be a direct swap.
Thanks- Jim

Unless your 1200 Sport has the "paddle" type handlebar controls (unlikely), otherwise it is not compatible.

I've had issues with the oil pressure switches in the past, but I cannot fathom how this is related to the gauges.  What are the symptoms of your persistent oil pressure light issue?

Often it's just electricity tracking across the insulator of the switch (31)  (mislabeled Gauge here)
Try cleaning it then spray it with WD40, when its on next time pull the connector off and see if it goes out.
The inputs to the ECU or Dash draw such a tiny current you could almost breath on the switch to set it off, I doubt changing the dash would make any difference

You could try pulling the switch input high with a resistor lets say 1K so the switch has a harder job pulling it low but try cleaning it first.

It could also be moisture at the back of the dash tracking across.
I have even seen incandescent oil lamps glowing in wet weather.

Interested to hear what Wayne has to say.

Dave
I guess its just been a matter of eliminating all other possibilities at this point Im left with the gauges.
As far as the bike goes- it runs fantastic. There are no actual symptoms other than the oil pressure light is on probably 80 percent of the time. There is no pattern hot or cold or accelerating/ decelerating, etc...
Thanksgiving  for your advice- I appreciate it.

When I had 4 Guzzis not one had a switch that worked, I had a gauge on each one.

Sent from my shoe phone!

I had the same failure - a faulty dash giving an incorrect oil pressure warning. Not saying that your problem is definitely this but letting you know that yours wouldn't be the first.
As far as Sport vs Norge dashes go my experience is that they are not fully compatible, my bike (Breva 850) uses the same dash as the Norge and when I tried a spare 1200 sport dash that Pete Roper had  the indicators didn't work. There was probably other stuff but I didn't bother investigating further, just bit the bullet and bough a new one.
Good luck
