Been working since last summer - that's what allowed me to buy the Stelvio! If things keep steady on this contract, I hope to add a Griso to the fold in the next few months. I didn't see anything in the Mecum list that makes me say 'gotta have that', but I can always delay the Griso if a bargoon comes along!

My last work gig ended 10-13-17, so I am now looking around for something else again...should have an update by Jan.

Besides, I am fixing up a '93 Triumph Sprint 900 to sell right now. For now, my '98 Centauro GT and '14 Victory Vision will have to do... :wink:

Hi AZ Wayne - How are you? You may be right about riding practicality, but when it comes to rarity /exclusivity / and the collectible factor...especially at the world's largest vintage motorcycle auction, I would say...all bets are off (IMHO),

But I never thought the Mystery Ship was attractive.
I thought Paul Tracy's stuff was nicer.

It was described as a "speed record" bike, so, I'm thinking it was built for something more like Bonneville, then for the 1/4 strip.

Among "The Usual Suspects" here in AZ, there has been a lot of recent flapping and bantering going back and forth about vintage Laverda's, so here is a cool example coming up for auction.
Back in the 80's, I had one just like this...it was fun...a very heavy and solid bike with good brakes / frame, but it was a load...still fun to ride...until I broke a cam lobe...so I repaired it...then sold it. The color was the traditional Laverda orange. Some moto-journo's dubbed it: "The Italian Norton..." but that was a stretch, IMHO. :wink: :thumb:

Hi twowings...Sadly... NONE....as I first have to farm out my 1995 Triumph Sprint 900 project (which I bought last April...), you see below, with pieces all over my garage floor. It has a bad "sprag clutch" which requires the engine to be "dropped and split" etc. :shocked: :shocked: :shocked:
A friend is going to take it off my hands for what I have into it, as I took another full-time job Dec. 11th, and don't have the bandwidth or time to fix it up for sale...
Once that is gone, I will be FREE to get something else...(???) We'll see...I have been attending to the Vegas auctions with "The Usual Suspects" for >20 years now, and have never bought anything up there.
One of these years, I will, but not this year. It's just fun to see all the bikes and now MECUM alone showcases >1,750 bikes! I'll take some photos and post them here in a few weeks. It's always a big party! :wink:

A few years back, I flew to SOCAL to look at a total "nut & bolt" restoration of a 1965 Yamaha YG1-K, 80cc Rotary Jet. This was identical to my very first motorcycle at age 14, and which started a 50+ year obsession with motorcycles!! :cool: :thumb: :wink:
Anyway, the guy was asking $6,000 for it!!! :shocked: :shocked: :shocked: :shocked: which really told me it was not for sale, so obviously, I passed. It was a superb example, however, but NOT worth $6K!! :shocked:

This bike came into my care due to the significance it had on my early motorcycle riding. This is my "Rollie Ratzloff" bike.
I lived on a farm in the Horse Hills community and attended M.E. Lazerte for high school. Between rural Sturgeon County and NE Edmonton here was a large contingent of motorcycle riders on bikes from 50 Hondas to 750 Kawasakis that spent lunch time do wheelies up and down 144 ave.
Kane's was the big Yamaha dealer in North Edmonton at the time so there was a significant number of little Yamahas in the school parking lot. Rollie Razloff was the proud owner of a YG5-T80 that looked exactly like this bike and despite the small displacement could stay with anyone riding down the creeks or climbing hills. I met Rollie while riding with a collection of future "world leaders" that would cut class to go riding in the gravel pits in what is now Hermitage Park.
The afternoon ride would conclude with this group of 7 or 8 truants pulling into the car wash on the Fort Road and 63 street and attempting to wash all the bikes with one quarter. This was followed by a rush back to Lazerte in time to make an appearance, then go home.
Rollie Ratzloff remained a good friend and riding partner as eventually we both bought CB750 Hondas and worked at Alberta Cycle during the early 70's.
When the opportunity to own this gem, serial # G5-00006, presented itself I couldn't turn it down.

Our small vintage motorcycle display at the recent International Motorcycle Show stop in Edmonton included the display of a 1968 Yamaha YG5 - 80.

The little Yamaha Trail bike was one of the top draws of the display, more people stopped to look at and chat about the Yamaha than any other bike we showed.
This is the text on the show card, the current custodian is the owner of a chain of motorcycle dealerships in western Canada.

I love these small little 2-stroke "tiddlers"...as it brings me back to a simpler, less complicated time...

To represent those of us who can't make the trip to The City of Desert Lights for the Big Show, I'm off to good ol' blue-collar H-D-making York, PA for the Potomac Riders annual swap meet and bike show (indoors in the big fairground arena there).
I'll betcha I get a couple pictures of nice old Yamaha 80s or Ducati tiddlers, so we'll do with that until the auction report comes out ....

Honda GB500's were hot at Mecum this year, three went for $11k or higher, $14,300, $12,650, $11,000. Heck, for $14,300, you're getting close to V7 Sport territory. I'd much rather have a V7 sport than one of these.

* The 75 Laverda SF2 went for $8K...nice buy..but should be Laverda orange...
* The Triumph X75 went for $25K
* The rare Harris Suzuki 1150 did go through because it did not have a VIN number stamped on the frame!

The yellow indian is a 741, the one that they built for the Army in WWII, obviously, "civilianized" at a later date with the yellow paint job. If running and road worthy, this would be one of the lowest priced ways into a vintage Indian to ride.
