They needed this. That 690 Duke was a paint shaker. I barely made it through the 20 mile test ride. Still think the FZ07 is a better value.

The 2016 and newer 690 has a new engine with second balancer shaft, and by all accounts vibrates much less than the older ones. But when I read that under 3,000 rpm it gets snatchy and rough, I lost a lot of interest. I agree about the FZ-07, and I'm thinking I need to test ride one soon.

Got the itch Jim? Looks like the FZ-07 smokes the HD Street Rod in the Cycle World test.
387#s with abs at less than $7.5K vs $9.4K for the HD.
ERGOs sucked on the HD and judging from the photos it looks like they raised the pegs to get more cornering but looking at the two side to side in the corners the HD rider was clearly had his hips much more flexed than the Yamaha and I'd say the FZ rider looked taller than the HD rider.

Yes, at 120 lbs heavier than the FZ-07, I don't think the Streed Rod is even in the same category.

The FZ07 is sprung a little on the soft side, but that works for my riding style and I like that I was able to move my GIVI V35 bags over to it. Mine is a '15 that I bought in January '16 for $6200 new.

That is what I thought but I saw this recent (June 2017) full blown comparison and couldn't help but put it out there.
CW begins their piece with a lame reason for comparing the 2 bikes:
"Reality is: The Street Rod exists almost solely because of widely successful bikes like the FZ-07, which have made inroads on potential Harley sales. The FZ’s success, in particular, proves that a younger riding demographic is keen on a bike that’s sporty but fun. Stylish but capable. And not decidedly cruiser. The Street Rod is Harley’s answer, with added benefit of some American flavoring."
