Title: Gas cap question
Post by: gearman on November 22, 2017, 10:12:22 AM
Well I finished the was a trike bike.I always wanted red metallic. The black convert gas cap takes little pressure to lock and unlock. The red one takes twice as much force both ways. They both feel the same when opened. I see a small screw head under the cap and wondered if that is a adjustment screw of some sort. I turned it both ways but it did not seem to make any difference.I don't even know what the screw is doing.  Any Ideas? Thanks

There's a nut on that screw. You can remove the whole seal/vent/baffle assembly from the cap outer by pushing in on it and twisting it 90 degrees. Then you'll have access to the nut and flat spring as well.

Thanks for the info. You mean push on the seal/vent/baffle assy. Can I do this with the cap on the tank?

Best done with the cap off of the tank and laying upside down. Push down and turn the seal/vent/baffle assembly. The cap comes off so easy (just lift a clip and slide it off the pin) it's not worth the chance of messing something up with it on the tank.

Lift the tab and slide the cap back out of the slot to remove.

Lay the cap outer side down. Note the flat edge goes towards the latch.

Depress and turn to disengage the bump from between the tabs.

Flat spring that provides the tension.

Hope this helps.
