Cross our palms with silver and we'll send you one!

Faark. That is a good looking bike. Please keep us all up to date with the sorting process.
Grunt machine is what I want to hear.
Cheers, voncrump

What does it do to yours in a 100 k roll on ?
-
OMG that's a tasty looking bike,,, I could go with a 2 up saddle for myself,,, but I imagine the deep dish of the solo seat would help hold your a** in place when you twist the throttle, lol.
Any chance of throwing up a photo from the exhaust side,,, some times that's a weak spot on the Grisos.
I love the laid back, black treatment everywhere,,, really contrasts well with the orange,,, blends very nice overall.
Anxious to hear detailed riding reports, and if the legendary chassis stands up well to the extra power.
Very well done, kudos to all involved.

Those are 2 of the best looking Griso's that I have ever seen.
-
Stunning. I want one.

Much too early to say Peter, what I do know is that even in its primitive form it does have, as expected, very nice low end torque. With the 'Stab in the dark' arse numbers map that was slipped in it romped away from me at lower rpm. Yes, Mark is considerably lighter than my porkiness but even so, I think we were in the same gear and he was pulling away satisfactorily on a motor with 50Km on it.
No, it's not a 'Bussa Beater', obviously but bugger me it has the potential to be fun.

Michael's was there too, just not in the pics. It's not too shabby either......

Looks fantastic! After all of the work you have done to help the Griso crowd, you deserve to have the most unique (and possibly the best performing) one.

Can I have one in yellow one please? Seriously, it looks fantastic!

You guy's killed it ! Awesome build
-
That is the kind of bike that will create enthusiasm for the marque...Guzzi take note.
-
What kind of KTM is that? ;)
Nice!
-
Kinda looks like an Italian XR1200.
-
Goog looking, the Orange- black combo works, what orange is it?
-
For that bike, I'd learn to like orange. :thumb:
-
Looks like it was made for it.. :thumb: Attaboys all around.
-
That is simply Drool-licious! Looks amazing! Great work putting that special bike together!
Time for a TV show...Customize your Guzzi!
Just out of curiosity, was it an 8V engine in it before replacing it with the 1400 Roper edition? Do you notice any difference in how much more or less heat it gives off than the original motor?
-
The bike was yer bog stock 1200 at the beginning. It's come a long way from there. Mark's never ending quest to shed weight has led to the removal of a lot of *Normal* Griso bits, most obvious being the side plates that hold the footpegs but virtually anything that could be ditched or lightened has been.
Most noticeable difference over the 1200 motor is, as expected, low end torque. It just tractors at the bottom end and that is before any fine tuning of the map.

Well done fellas! LOVE the orange and black; much better than the orange and black bikes we see every day in Wisconsin.
-
-
Now I know where to get the orange paint for the dayglo panels on the Mk 2 fairing each side of the headlight.

That machine looks badder than Shaft.

Nerds gotta nerd!

gotta love this ...great build , and what i would expect from you fellows ...good on you ....i wish Guzzi had the balls to make a bike like this currently , its where the Griso should have gone ..

Looks great! My guess is, since I felt the need to see it again, that others might like to see the video of it running as well.

If I'd thought about it I would of made a short vid of him riding it but we were all feeling a bit wooly this morning after a night of gratuitous excess down at the Lake George restaurant. Mark put forward the rather spurious hypothesis that he needed some bourbon to 'Help him sober up.'! You can guess how that went .
Anyway rain was forecast for Wagga from about mid-day so he and Leah bolted as soon as we'd got up. I rode with him over to Murrumbateman before saying goodbye and peeling off to head back to Bungendore. Judging from the clouds I fear he'll get drenched before he gets home.

Pete, if your US tour next year has you in the midwest in late September, the Kentucky rally is in bourbon country. You can test that hypothesis..
Uh, it's never worked for me.. <shrug>

Alas, apart from the occasional gin and tonic spirits are off the agenda for me. Likewise regular wine drinking as it, especially reds, causes my gout to flare up savagely! Nowadays I'm pretty much strictly a beer drinker which probably explains my almost spherical shape!

Not quite drenched, but sufficiently wet enough....

I like the front mudguard paintjob.

New goose !!!?

It's not paint. It's vinyl wrap.
@pauldaytona Paul, it was the nearest thing to burnt orange they had!

Pete, Mark.
Well done, excellent work. It looks brilliant.
May the longevity fairey kiss it on the bum and it not explode.
Any thoughts on a dyno run?

Too old to be me? I'm not sure how to take that.

It's because you're so angry. Everyone thinks you're ancient!

I better stop making comments, still need the map from you after I rollerised my G12

I'm not angry, I've just been in a very bad mood for 50 years!

The Griso looks great!

Oh, Phang, the 'Third Man' is Michael who does the throttle twisting in the utube vid. As I've said elsewhere this build is more his than mine and he has been pivotal in its success. Yes it's been a group effort but my contribution has been mainly knowledge and experience. This is far more Mark and Michael's build than mine.

干得好 (well done) :thumb:

Y’all don’t be talking about Mark looking old, he looks young and healthy, that’s my take at least until we get my calvin remapped anyway:)
-
That bike is really something to be proud of! Very well done indeed.
Makes me wish I could come hang out with you guys just to watch these projects.
Now you have me wanting to trade my old Thruxton in on a new Griso again, just as I had gotten over the urge. Seems I fight this urge every few months, dang it!!!
-
That's one heck of a team effort guys! Now you just need to go into "production" and send 'em over here... :thumb:
-
What a great build and beautiful finished bike.
-
Great looking bike - must be a blast.

B R A V O . . . . . :bike-037: Great to see this. Beautiful build and I am glad you could get it worked out.

Tks, very nice. That savage looking heat bluing on the header pipes adds to the overall brawny character.
-
Single skin Titanium pipes. As well as being very pretty they do actually have some tangible benefits with the 8V motor.
Pete
-
That stuff fits better than stock too!! So, when's the next one? You start on it yet? How about a Norge.
-
Nice. Simply a very nice looking bike!

No comment

Molto bello...
-
Well first *Problem* has arisen. It's cracked a breather hose . Not serious but annoying.
Preliminary logging and mapping diagnosis indicates that this engine is going to need considerably more fuel than its 1200 precursor.. It was running lean as buggery when it went home and when I rode it. Once the fueling is sorted it should be much more fun!
Pete
-
Lean & clean.

Sorry Steve missed this. The 'Next one' will go into whoever is willing to pick up the tab's bike. I'd like to try a Norge or Sport but my Stelvio's motor is pretty tired, I just don't need any extra oomph though!
Pete
-
Despite a couple fettling issues, I took it for its first serious logging run today. I first installed a map with more fuel added across the board to reduce the lean running.
Strike me pink! Third gear from 2000 RPM, cracked the throttle wide open. Front wheel leaves the tarmac briefly. A little bit of poo comes out. Every other run to redline in 3rd gear I had to lean over the bars. It gets very light. I ain't doing it in 1st or 2nd. I don't own enough underwear.
-
I can *Just* get rolling air in third on mine but it takes a lot of clutch abuse and the timing has to be impeccable! Sounds like this motor is behaving as we expected. Nothing came flying out @ 8,000! Bonus! :boozing:
Pete

Damn fellas , take a bow , this is fun

does the sacred screw seal need to be broken in this conversion?
it is fine if you guys don't want to reveal it in public forum

Good god no!
-
Good god no!
The stepper motor bleed enough air to keep those big pistons happy at idling, I suppose.
-

That's generally a good sign.
ahem, now we know what Charlie Brown has been sitting out in the garden waiting for.
<running and ducking>

Whas uuuup ?
-
Well, speaking to Mark last weekend it now looks like it's as close to finished as it will ever be with an inveterate fiddler working the map.
Sounds like a lot of fun, I haven't ridden it yet.

Big smoothie that can pull down small buildings. All finished now....

Yes, I was wondering also, just last nite. Hope all is well w/Big G.
-
Awesome! I am curious if you ended up with anything close to a factory 1400 map , if that even makes sense. Your plug looks a bit richer than either my griso or 1400. I'm glad it all panned out for you guy's. You must be getting whacked with inquiries from all over the planet and beyond. Would love to see a video some day of you and Pete doing side by side roll on's . Or maybe Pete doing a wheelie tutorial. :thumb:

You can't really compare. Cali 7SM maps have three maps per cylinder, plus the three riding map modes. One "main" map, and five correction maps. Effectively 6 maps per cylinder. That excludes MAP sensor correction and temperature correction tables. I'm still try to figure out how they're applied. The 5AM is pretty basic by comparison. Then there's the single throttle body vs dual throttle bodies.
I'm extremely happy with that plug. About as perfect as it can get.

It's only been split for about 15 years.

You'll never see me do a wheelie tutorial or even probably a wheelie, not because I don't from time to time but if I was asked to do it on demand I'd almost certainly screw it up or fall off! :D
As for the plug it's very nice, the air/fuel ring is the textbook! This is one of the things that certain other people overlook. If you only pay attention to the EG-AFR and don't actually consider how an individual engine design will work you can end up way off target in terms of the mix and the burn itself can be altered and changed by factors like spark advance and engine speed.
Of course EGA is used! Mark logs data using a WBOS on the road as although more time consuming and more hard work than using a dyno it also allows analysis of what is happening in real riding conditions rather than just taking a few points of throttle and applying load on a dyno. But then those findings are combined with a host of other tests and examinations and plugs are still a vital tool of discovery as they will tell you exactly what is happening inside the combustion chamber, not just in the pipe, which as we've tried to explain before, on the 8V is a somewhat odd environment due the the charge transition issues that affect it, (The same issues that make it such a thirsty pig of a thing!)! Thing is while there may well be a theoretical *Ideal* AFR, (Being very simplistic.) relying solely on EGA is not only naive it won't render the best results!
I've said it many times over the years but it's worth repeating once again you have to look at an engine holistically. They are each and every one of them an enormous melting pot of compromises and trying to look at them and how they work in simple, linear terms is fruitlessly! You have to look at the BIG, overall, picture. Not just one aspect.

Thanks for the update and explanations in terms I can kind of understand. Stay well !
