Title: Fuel pump always on ?
Post by: MMRanch on November 27, 2017, 10:48:57 PM

So I've noticed my V-7II making fuel pump noise , like its trying to keep the fuel pressure up and ready even after its turned off .

It seem to me that is a good way to run the battery down for no good reason.   I mean my car don't keep its fuel pumped up 24/7 like that !

I've even thought of putting a "On/Off" toggle switch on it.

Anybody else have a problem with the pump staying active when its not needed ?

Isn't power to the pump cut when the key is off ? Are you sure it isn't just a bit of tank suck you are hearing once the engine has gone quiet ? Wasn't there a discussion about the evap system moaning slightly after shut down on the small blocks ?

What you are more than likely hearing is the fuel tank venting to the charcoal canister.  It is a moaning sound. during the winter surrounded by a gaggle of Guzzi when the sun hits the showroom it sounds like a herd of cows.

I swear Anni's saying "Maaamaaa" in a drawn-out compliany sort of way.  My husband and I have come to the conclusion that she doesn't want to be stabled, but rather allowed to run free.

Usually , I get a shop manual for bikes I plan to keep a while .   But ,  it seems the Guzzi books go for more than the Suzuki/etc. books .   Is it worth it ?

:1: with this as confirmed by my tech and buddy who also owned one.

It is just trying to breath out indifference of pressure from inside the tank

if it stills goes on when you parked in shade for a good hour or so, then you might wanna see if anything causing the tank to pressurized when bike is off.

That's why noises are so hard to diagnose over the internet. The fuel pump sounds nothing like the tank venting, but I was scratching my head wondering just how the fuel pump could continue to run with the ignition off.
