Title: Winterlude
Post by: Moto on December 03, 2017, 03:47:15 PM
Or the Deux Prairies.

I took the unusual opportunity to have a 220 mile trip during December yesterday. I rode from Madison up to Prairie du Sac and then west along Route 60 and the Wisconsin River to Prairie Du Chien on the Mississippi River. It was between 45 and 50 during the trip, but how could I complain about that? Come on, global warming!

Can I get an "Amen"?

This IS the warm part of the cycle!   Your alternative is glaciers, in that part of the world.

You probably had the road to yourself as far as motorcycles go.   Although I did see 4 big touring rigs together today in the 50 degree morning .....

Born and raised in WI. I know Hwy 60 along the river. Nice road. Threw in the towel in 2001 and moved to FL. Rode 120 miles today with my mesh jacket and a t-shirt.

I'm going to try to ride every day in December (a little easier to do in Texas).

I collect Historical Markers on rides.  Here is today's marker:

OK, Amen ! You are about to enter the deep freeze. I don't miss N IL in winter at all. I didn't ride all weekend, didn't bother me one bit.

Gentlemen,

I was just reveling in my good luck to have such weather in December, not trying to start a climate change war or a contest about whose is bigger, your season or mine.

Happy to have the chance to ride one more weekend, and glad to have observed a distinct moderation of winter weather over my 27 years here.

Route 60 by the Wisconsin River is much nicer in summer, when the road surface is warm and clean, traction is better, the sun is higher in the sky, the deer aren't spooked from hunting season, and the leaves are on the trees.

Every state of the Union has its compensations for motorcyclists, even Florida and Texas. Enjoy the nice riding over the winter!

Which bike did you take?

Griso. I thought about mounting the larger windshield, but didn't. I just had the factory fly screen. The electric vest turned out to be a good idea.

I use the Dart Marlin on my GRiSO, lost my heated vest when one of the boys started riding.
Had the heat in the neck area and this kept my shoulders from tensing up.
Sounds like a great Christmas present!.
RIDE ON, MOTO!
Oh, and a big AMEN to ya !!
