Love to! I grew up around farms. I used to clean the stalls when I was a kid, just to be close to the horses.

Nice shot, we got about an inch of the white stuff the other day. That’s plenty for the year as far as I’m concerned!

Beautiful, pastoral photo, Kent. I spent a bit of time upstate...really a special place in autumn and winter.

For those who love upstate NY, nature, and the Adirondacks, this is a good read, first in a series. True story, sadly the author has passed away. Title and author didn't show. Woodswoman, by Anne LaBastille

If I would have stayed it would have been my first White Christmas, but I was smart enough to head back to SC instead.  I haven't worn a coat since Thursday night!

I'll be on the plane back tomorrow though. This will be my one and only cold winter :)

Winter/cold weather is the best hiking weather. Less ticks/insects. The cooler air seems more oxygen rich, you can go further and faster. Coffee tastes better too.

All very true.  Did a lot of winter climbing and camping years ago while in collage in the NE.

Beats a piggery or a chicken farm.     Given those options.  I'd pick a stable too.  :thumb:

Spent many of my younger years in Cleveland, Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Waterloo, NY.. Saw much lake effect snow and am glad to be south of it now.  Cold has me using the battery tender for the next few days & that's enough winter for me.  Very pretty though.

Except when the snow is so deep to prevent operation of the manure spreader. It is amazing how much poop two horses can produce.

Recorded 53" of the crap in 30 hours at the Erie Airport.  About 1/3 of what we got all last winter.

Spent 6+ hours on 2 different tractors & 4 hours with a shovel yesterday, just to get 1 of the cars out to the road.

8 more inches in the driveway this morning.

Pretty?  Yeah, I guess....  Great pic, though....

I was born and raised in upstate New York, (northern Dutchess County), and lived there for >21 years.
It is a beautiful place, especially the Catskills / Adirondack mountains, if you don't mind 6+ months of winter...

As a young man, my motivation to move "south and west" was to be able ride a motorcycle all year round.  So, I spend many years working and living in Texas, northern California, Oregon, (a little wet there...) and finally, Arizona, (The Phoenix area), and now, northern Arizona.  There are four (4) seasons up here in Yavapai / Coconino counties, and riding here is not too shabby either... :thumb: :1:

It's for the visual effect.  Hated shoveling the damp East Coast snow.

I've only had dry powdery snow here. Easy to shovel. Of course, I use a tractor.

Criminy. I'll be driving through there in FrontWD only Saturday, New Hampshire to Cleveland. Can you get it to hold up for me? Maybe a couple extra passes with the plow? Thanks!

S'posed to get another foot Fri evening/ Sat morning, but they're getting a break to reset today - hasn't snowed in 10 or 12 hours.....  Plows were out in force this morning (Thur) pushing the berms back & getting ready for the next round.  I think they're awake now, & they'll have a handle on it for a measley 12 - 15".  Most of the Interstates (90, 86, 79) were pretty good on my commute today - wet pavement with just a few patches of "pack ice" here & there.  With all these big highways thru here, they're pretty good at getting them cleared off.

Biggest problem earlier was it came so hard & fast they didn't have anyplace to put it.  (Can't dump it back in the lake like they used to...)

I think you'll be ok w/ FWD, depending on the timing.  If you get in the neighborhood & have any issues or need anything, don't be afraid to give us a call - 8one4.44O.95four9

Other than that, I'll put in a good word for ya with The Big Guy - that's about all any of us can do....

I took a trip to Mexico the last week of October just to sear that image into my brain before this onslaught.  Good news is the project that I'm on is about to wrap up and  this will be the only Upstate winter I have to deal with.  I just hold my gloved index finger up when I need a reminder!

Again, I just spoke with a good friend who lives in West Point, VA (near Richmond) and he said it has been "brutally and bitterly cold" in his area (only in the teens!!!) over the last few days!

Everyone stay warm...stay inside...STOKE that fireplace...and Happy New Year!!

Sincere thank you for the offer of Hospitality. Heading out from seacoast NH at 6 am. Expected to be -2 F at that point. That's 4 degrees warmer than it was this morning!! Woot!! Hoping for smooth sailing.
