don't want you feel homesick. It was 8 degrees flyover country this mornin'. eat your heart out.
nice photos.

A Public Relations kid??
Puerto Rican, I think.. SoCal is *the * melting pot of ethnicity. At the overlook to the Snake, though, everyone speaks the same language. :thumb:

Moto speak??? Any sliding bikes go by??

There were some squids doing wheelies. .just a matter of time.

Nice MZ. I had an MZ Baghira 660 for several years. Fun bike, but it was getting hard to find parts for it. Sold it to a rider from Germany that had relocated to the states. He was the person I ever met that knew what it was!
-
I'll be out there for the New Year's Day drive. Look for a yellow Caterham 7 with a smiling driver!

I know what you are saying. I built this bike from a pile of parts..cheap.. (Guzzi content) Ended up having more in it than I wanted after sourcing some stuff from Poland, England, etc. <shrug>
Fortunately, LA Kevin just gave me a parts bike, and I'm scavanging OEM stuff off it every day, it seems. :thumb:
-
Uhh, next door neighbor Bob just sent me a picture of his weather station readout.
Yikes!

I'm sort of kicking myself for not going out to the mountains today, but it was a little cool.. only 66. :boozing: Caught up on some honey do's instead. Supposed to be in the low 70s the next couple of days so...

Have fun Chuck It may get up to 0 this afternoon..... have fun.
-
Only 39 more degrees to go here and we will be pulling even with you, Chuck! It's just a matter of time, now...

Couldn't stand it. Thought about that -2 actual and went down the coast. It's the only place you can ride from Redondo Beach without getting on the various interstates and all that entails.

I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your server..

If you keep kicking around in neighborhoods local to me, I might just have to have you meet up with you. Bought my EV from a guy not far from your PV picture.
Have fun!!!!!

Let me know if you want to do a loop up Angeles Crest on Friday. Nucomb's Ranch should be open.
I rode up about 1:30 on the 23rd and the bastards had closed. I was starving, had not eaten all day.

I 'member this exact view.....from the days I used to ride my bicycle from Hermosa Beach to San Pedro, thru PV. Probably couldn't even push my bike up those hills now. That was before I moved to St. Louis (No, I can't believe I did that, either) and discovered what a Moto Guzzi was, in the basement of the house I rented; a '72 red/white Eldo that I bought, got running, and took with me back to Lompoc, CA. It had ~20k miles on it as I recall, had sat for years, never even HEARD of the "dreaded chrome bores", and yet it ran like a top until I sold it a few years later.

Thanks for the invite, Rob.. but I promised I'd find a way of storing all these uobtainium MZ parts. That's on the schedule for the next couple of days. I'd certainly take a rain check, though.. I love riding the Crest.

Looks like the "marine layer" wouldn't let you see Catalina. If your out and about, at the Torrance Airport is the Western Air Museum. Features some historical planes and a lot of model aircraft. Pretty cool for cheap.(guzzi content) :bike-037:

More pix because Dusty sez so.
This is the start of world famous (and rightly so) Latigo canyon. Pictures really don't do the view justice.

It's hard to take a picture because there just aren't many places to stop. There *might* be a straight of more than 100 feet in the 12 miles or so it takes to climb to the top. Maybe.

This is off a goat trail that branches off Yerba Buena..again, a cell fone camera doesn't do it justice.

You have to keep this sucker on the boil. A Guzzi is *much* easier on your clutch hand in the mountains. My hand was telling me enough, but Piuma canyon road beckoned.. and who knows when I'll get to run it again? Ran into my first car of the day.. it was moving along pretty well, but I just stopped to let it get well ahead and took the last picture of the day.

20 miles lane splitting to get to the hills, 100 miles of serious twisties, and 20 miles of lane splitting back to the beach.
It was good for me.. :thumb:

It was 21 degrees when I left the house to go to lunch with some of my old motor buds at the PD. I donned myself with my old 37 year old Raven Cold Suit a full cover helmet and two pairs of gloves. I know now why some of you guys like the grip warmers as placing my hands on the valve covers was my only redemption:). By the way I’m in central NC.

Hard to believe I was just out there (Huntington Beach) for Christmas with family. It was actually a bit cool on the coast the week leading up to the holidays, lows every morning around 48 and highs only in the low 60's. I see it warmed right up as soon as I flew out. The wife had never been to Malibu, so we took the rented cage up PCH and had lunch at Neptune's Net...a few bikes were out. Now I'm back home in Tennessee and it's a balmy 30 degrees out. Ugh! Too bad it costs so much to live in California. I saw so many Teslas driving around I started calling them "California golf carts!"
-
The Palos Verdes area when I was out there in the 60's was mostly strawberry fields and when they started building houses up there you could buy a nice one w/ocean view for under $30K.
If we had only known!!! (Of course wealth didn't mean much to me in those days, figured if I survived long enough there would me time for that.)
:-)
Yeah, I used to know a guy (RIP) that flew out of San Diego. He had a one of a kind Phillips biplane, King air and a helicopter, so probably was doing ok. He said he bought some worthless desert right after the war, and sold it over and over..

Small world. I had lunch at Neptunes net today. Yesterday, I saw a Tesla work van. (!)

Last ride in the hills today. There'll probably be a lot of traffic on Mulholland, so avoided it.
Oh, bother..

A couple of Winters ago, Scud came up from Sandy Eggo, and Rox came in from east LA, and I led a spine raid through the hills. Finished up with Tuna canyon ..

One way, no worries about some BDC in your lane. It was good for me. Pretty seriously downhill to the ocean, though. the last time, Rox boiled the brake fluid in his LeMan's rear brake
<sigh> I guess all good things must come to an end. I understand it's -11F back home.
Edit:
Oh, btw.. this was a shake down run for more parts bike stuff I've installed in the last couple of days. New instrument cluster, OEM clutch cable, lever and perch, and misc OEM hardware.
LAKevin.. you rock! :) Thanks again.

I rode up about 1:30 on the 23rd and the bastards had closed. I was starving, had not eaten all day.
I ride down to La Cabanita in Montorse, the mole is the bomb, the other choice would be Wrightwood.
I went on my annual New Year's Day Drive (not ride) diving a Caterham 7 We met up at Trancas Market north of Kanan and drove all the usual roads. Nice weather, only saw the man once.

There were a lot of car clubs out in the hills. While they aren't really rolling roadblocks like we've all seen.. I stayed on the more obscure roads and had a good time.
-
Oh - you're headed home? Was gonna suggest you come ride a V11 or ST3 next weekend. Next time.
Tuna Canyon was good fun - one lane, one way, steep (down), and twisty.

It was sure a pretty day today. Unfortunately I am back at work. Spent all day Monday at Disneyland with the family (hint from a local, but never repeat it, New Years Day is about the least busy day at Disneyland the entire year).
Hope to catch you on a return trip. Angeles Crest is the nicest ride I have seen in a long time right now. Newer and very clean pavement.

A little brisk when we stepped out of the terminal building last night..
Just the same, no matter how humble, it's good to be home. I *like* the 4 seasons for whatever reason. There were ice crystals in the air shining like diamonds.
Oh, yeah.. it's quiet. I should mention that, too. Don't get me wrong.. it was cosmic to be able to ride my scooter in the mountains for three weeks in the middle of Winter, but I'm a Midwesterner at heart.
-
I think it's much easier to be a "midwesterner" when you can spend a few weeks on the coast when the midwest is frozen.
-
Great pics and fun Chuck! Looks like a good time.
I always chuckled at the term Midwest and how far it "extends" eastwards.
Seems that when the distance from Indianapolis to San Francisco is 2300 miles and from Indianapolis to New York is only 700 miles...shouldn't that put folks in Indiana as Mideast rather than Midwest?
:)
-
Flat-landers. What do you expect.

Uh, not too long ago, Indiana *was* the West..
ps: This morning my weather station says it's -10F with a wind chill of -20. (!) Sure glad I don't have to get out and milk the cows like I did when I was a kid..

True, John.. I used to get the motorcycle Jones pretty badly by February and went to Camp Carlo at bike week just to ride my scooter. With a nice mid winter break.. not so much.

I'd definitely go back to Daytona if they brought back the REAL "200".
If I were putting it together I'd invite everyone on a Superbike, the US, Britain and the World. I would think those Real Road Racers (Isle of Man types) would be interested since that do tire change pit stops. I'll bet Rea and Marquez would do it on a dare.
You have to go back to the era of Mladdin and Spies when it was a professional race.
