Title: Side Car on a Griso?
Post by: Bulldog9 on December 28, 2017, 01:55:31 PM
Anyone done this?  I've been throwing the idea around, and definitely want to do a Side Car, bouncing between the Norge and Griso, but looks like this is uncommon, and only available for the Older Ambassador models, or the Stelvio. Thanks!

DMC list's Breva & Stelvio would be close to a Griso, I would relocate oil cooler if I made it.

Sidecars can go on anything, just make sure styling of the sidecar fits the bike. I have had sidecars on Triumph Trident 750, Ducati Desmo 450, Suzuki T500, Suzuki GT750, and Suzuki GSX750. I think the Griso would be perfect.

The owners manual specifically says no sidecar.

Sorry, but that just couldn't look good.

Found these images online...if I am not mistaken, that is an expensive ARMEC sidecar from Switzerland...

I have never owned a sidecar, but took a weekend class in Seattle a few years ago and learned how to "drive" one...
It was a blast...but it is indeed a different animal!!!  In my old age, this may be the way to go for a three-wheeler...a TriKing with a Moto Guzzi motor!!! :1: :thumb:

Do you REALLY want to chain a boat anchor to an angel?

While I know there are some CARC bike based outfits out there I really don't think that they are a good choice for a tug. The swingarm is a lightweight casting that is not designed to take the large lateral stresses imposed by a chair and I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable driving one.

A Cali 1100 is a FAR better machine for this purpose. As others have said though building a really good outfit is big dollars.

I found these photos in my files of Guzzi's with sidecars...just for fun. :thumb: :1:

From a safety, handling, and touring standpoint, two-wheels up front, and one in the rear (like the TriKing, or JZR, etc.) is the BEST triangle configuration...IMH O

Wat Pete sez.  There are better tugs.

I would emphasize the idea of tug choice, a wide handlebar is essential to turn reasonably comfortablely.  Only with a "leaner/swinger" style can a bike retain sport bars and front end set up.

The Triking is a definite possibility. I've wanted a bike with a sidecar for years, and trying to scheme how to keep my Griso..... Hmmmm......
