I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or move way up into the mountains...

hah! this is perfect. it calls to mind the approximation that i use for an h.l.mencken quote: "No one ever lost any money underestimating the good taste and intelligence of the american public." seems so pertinent in this day and age.
[note: because i posted this on a list i looked up the accurate quote just to save some back and forth, this, from wikipedia: "No one in this world, so far as i know... has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people."
the tone in the mencken has no nationalisitic specificity and seems more damning of the human race as a whole.]

That happened to me when I drove over a back filled ditch. It was not compacted and I sunk in about 3 feet. I pushed myself out with the bucket...

You can waste a LOT of hours out of your life after typing in "Youtube Heavy Equipment Fail" and watching a few.
The American public has no monopoly on idiocy when it comes to dealing with equipment, mud, light bridges, overloaded trucks, etc.
What amazes me the most is that the equipment generally being destroyed, thrown down a mountain, sunk in a river, or pulled into two pieces is often a genuine Caterpillar, Deere, JBC, Volvo, or other brand-name asset worth more than the annual GDP of the place it's being used .... and being operated by a guy who thinks he's driving a small donkey ....

I wonder how much they are going to rack up in backhoe rental fees?
