Title: (NGC)-Obit of a woman that knew how to live.
Post by: Gliderjohn on January 09, 2018, 01:38:12 PM
Didn't know her, just saw her obituary and thought WOW!, this woman knew how to take on life and live it to it's fullest. Would have have like to of had an opportunity to meet her. Bet there were few dull moments around her!

I have seen some interviews of women service and transport pilots from WW2.
Impressive ladies for sure, gutsy also.

Indeed, Gliderjohn.....a life well lived :thumb:

My friend Ed the Rocket Scientist's aunt was a WASP. She ferried P47s mostly..

I want to add...

In all the meetings like this I have attended I don't think I was ever touched so much at those honored.
It really brought home the resolve (competence)  of these women. Bright piercing eyes and firm hand shake..
I would have offered the front seat to any one of them... something I don't take lightly.

Humbled

Absolutely. And at the end of their service.. nothing. nada. Goodbye and thanks for the fish.. not even that.

And to add to this. I recently read a book about the Russian "Night Witches." Flying and maintaining antique tube and rag biplanes ..at night.. at low altitude..dropping their bomb (singular) at the front. Some flew over 1000 sorties. They were under appreciated, too, although a few got the "Hero of the Soviet Union" medal.
Seems to me that (political content be damned) we are all pretty much the same under the skin.
