Didn't Guzzi make a Police solo seat for Tonti frames? Does anyone make a copy of one?
Thanks Lumpy

Yes, I ride on one. Bracket set up goes to the 2 bars for radio rack. Mine's on a Cal2, I had to add a tab to frame. They fit right on earlier models.

Does this seat attach with the radio mounts? It doesn't look like it.

No. Contact Curtis @ Harper's for more information.

I have a complete, original Guzzi Tonti police seat, radio rack, windshield bracket and light mount setup; new in the box from 40+ years ago. Let me know if you need pictures of anything. Here's a couple images of an earlier bike I built (a G5) with the same setup, just to give you an idea. It's rather different than Harper's own seat. I'm not suggesting that one is better than the other. It all depends on the look and seating position you're going for.
(Full credit to Harper's, by the way, for the reproduction seat cover on the red/white bike below. They had, or had made, a very nice cover that is a quite a close reproduction of the original.)

Put one on a Vert. Rock hard and didn't show any signs of breaking in. Looked great, but I was immediately thinking of new foam solutions. Sold it before changing. Looked great.
Looked good too. The looks were perfect to my eye, but an absolute plank. Three old guys said so before I put it on anyway.
Looked good, good positioning..and that's it...

Tex has a complete Tonti solo seat pan, brackets, and radio rail setup with generous patina, if anyone wants to start from scratched. PM me or Texas Turnip if interested.
-
I have the rails and all the mounts, would have to look for a seat though.

Question for Curtis? Will hardware work for the last of the Tonti bikes. How about the Calvin?
Thanks.

I'll field that one -- no, not without mods. The later frames are 3" longer on the upper tail tubes and don't have the upright mounting tabs. Also, the contour of the later seat is different to fit the slope of the side covers. Even if it did mount up it would look out of balance on he bike.

Thanks Rodekyll
I do want to share what can be done with the Calvin. When $$$$ are available. This bike was a build by Billy Joel's shop in Long Island NY. 21 Century Cycle

I visited Billy Joel's place last summer, if you keep the conversation to motorcycles, he will always find time to talk.

Just want to clarify, I understand this custom was made for Bruce Springsteen.
Not mine!

The original Tonti frame police solo seats were pretty different than the loop frame seats.

Reviving old thread (hopefully).
My '79 G5 is finally back on the road (thanks, Charlie!) after a frame-off exploration, deep cleaning, powder coating, re-wiring (x2), timing work, etc., and general refurbishing. Now that it actually runs, I'm re-considering some aesthetic/comfort items. I had the Popemobile out for a 50-mile ride on Wednesday and found it quite comfortable, with the softly sprung suspension and thick foam seat. Nonetheless, I always thought the bike would look nice(r) with a solo saddle and maybe the top carrier.
To that end, a couple solo choices:
1) Used (anybody wanting to offload one?)
2) Bike Seat Factory reproduction T3 - G5 police solo
3) HarperMoto solo seat for Tonti frame
Since my bike is '79, I do have the verticle tabs on the frame, so mounting should be pretty straightforward, and I can fashion some hardware if necessary.
Obviously, seat comfort is subjective and peculiar to the individual arse.
Anyway, any comments on the alternatives? I like the looks of both new saddles, though the Harper version is definitely more "cruiser", while the BSF is more "police". The Harper's base price is $150 more , but that might even out some, given the $90 fixed shipping cost on the BSF. Plus, the Harper is made in the good ole U.S. of A. (versus Vietnam).
Thanks for your thoughts!

Been riding Harper's seat for 80,000 miles now. Love the way it looks. It is firm. You must wear motorcycle pants and undergarments on long rides with this seat. MC Gear doesn't have any hard raised seams in the sit area to chafe on long rides. Makes all the difference in the world.

Got mine from Harpers. Very happy with it.

I wonder if a Convert Solo Police seat pan would work with a KZ1000 Police seat cover with my custom carved foam.

<Thread drift warning> What fairing/shield is that, Bulldog?

Thanks, Ron, and thanks, Bulldog for the pic. Here's a pic of the Popemobile.

I'm thinking police seat may go better with the black with white pinstripe motif.

It's an MRA I bought for the GRiSO. I didn't like it on the GRiSO, but fits the convert perfectly and masks that block dash monstrosity

I just removed the seat and rear bracket, the Harpers seat has a tang that slides under a frame crossmember under the tank, and a spring mounted bar that clips into what was the front mount for the bench seat.
I'd love to have a Loop Frame styled rack over the rear fender.

Thanks. That's a really nice looking bike you have there.. :thumb: Would you happen to have a part number?
Edit: Never mind.. I see it's universal.

I'd have to dig through the receipts, but as you noted, it is a universal mount. Grabbed on Revzilla. I believe this is the one. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/mra-speedscreen-universal-windshield

So here is what I have gathered from the internet and here for options for a solo seat. Please contradict me if I am wrong.
The only alternative to a solo seat on a Tonti is buy a new seat from Harpers for or rebuild existing seat. (since chopper solo seats are not an option)
The seat covers for 850 solo seat on ebay are smaller than the Guzzi Convert/G5 police seat? not sure, but it looks like it.
For a Police solo, there are no ready made seat covers available from anywhere and the only option is either an upholstery shop or a repurposed KZ1000 seat or other with modified brackets...Time to bite the bullet.
I was hoping a $70 KZ1000 seat cover would fit the Convert Police Solo seat pan with custom carved foam, but apparently not close enough.

More drift....
Bulldog, would you mind if I just came over and kept polishing that for you? That's just so right in so many ways...
-
Thanks, Cam. Looks like Harpers' may be the most cost effective option after all unless I dust off my Dad's old upholstery machine.

John,
If you're looking for upholstery for an original Guzzi Tonti-frame solo seat, I'd suggest an inquiry to Harper's. In addition to making their own solo seat, they reupholster (or at least they have in the past) the original solo seats. I had this done on the seat for my G5. I sent them the pan, foam and tatty original cover. They sent back a beautifully upholstered seat. See below. The key difference between this and the original upholstery is that the new cover has a stitched pattern on top instead of being embossed as on the original. On the seventh post in this thread (from January 19, 2018) you can see some additional images of the seat and the installation on my G5.
If you have an original pan and decent foam, I'd suggest a call to Curtis. He was very helpful in getting my seat in tiptop shape.
