"....Always stored inside and meticulously maintained." I can only assume he means "mechanically" maintained? I like all of it except the seat. Price seems kinda high. I keep thinking about those brakes with 2-up riding and saddlebags full.

You'd think he'd at least wash it before taking the pictures for the listing.

Uhh, by not washing it he's representing himself as a Guzziti.

Back in the day we didn't really think about the brakes being marginal - they were as good as anything else on the road, except those upstart Honda fours.
Today, I wouldn't want to be two-up and loaded on a mountain grade with a pair of drums. Matter of fact, I spent quite a few pension checks to get a disk-braked Norton for Fay and I to ride in place of the drum braked A10 BSA we'd been riding. The BSA is back to solo riding in the hills ....

At $5000 I would say the price is not high, I wouldn't sell you mine for that, it's nowhere near as nice. :bike-037:

More is non-original than just the seat - taillight, chromed battery covers and toolboxes. Two things that likely are original that you really don't want to be: the cylinders with their flaky chrome bores.
Looks like a $3k (at most) Ambo to me...

My first impression exactly...Geeeez...  ...and especially if one is asking top dollar!!

That's what I was getting at with questioning the price. Aside from the tail light and chromed parts (guess it's a matter of taste....THOSE chromed parts look cheezy), I'm impressed with the original switches, and I DO like those saddlebags and wrap-around rails.
It'll be interesting to see how long this one stays listed.

Chromed covers were an actual thing on ambos. I've seen several. Is that dash correct?
-
I *might* go 25 hunnerd.. if I wanted one. You can buy a nice Ambo for 5K. That one isn't it.

I was wondering that. I thought a '71 had the nice looking aluminum cyclops.

Chromed covers might have been a "thing" but not from the factory. The dash is correct for the year.

I think if your looking for a good classic bike and its mechanically sound then this doesnt seem to be to high of a price. Needs to be taken for a test ride for sure. I dont think a person would lose money as the years go buy if you have to resell it. If your looking for one to restore its to high of a price IMHO.

Factor in the price of new jugs (+$1000) now you have 6K in a beater unoriginal Ambo. Good luck getting your money back. I'll stick by my 2500 bid if I wanted it. <shrug>
-
Ok, I'll revise my offer LOL first he has to wash it then change the jugs.
Here's my $200 worth

Surprisingly although it had been sitting for 20 years in this damp garage all the bits were still in boxes.
Had her on display at the Vancouver bike show last weekend, lots of nice comments.

"It's a rapidly appreciating classic" , or so the seller claims  Have they really gone up all that much in value over the last few years ?

So...the '70s had the single-speedo alloy dash?

Some years back we were at a vintage meet in OKC . My buddy met me there in his Ambo with the single gauge dash , and two "experts" were having quite the debate over the correctness of it

In my area I could sell that ambassador for $5000 as long as its ready to ride. There are 2 types of buyers, Chrome will get you home and Chrome wont get you home. Im rebuilding a 72 Eldo right now for a customer that paid $6000 for it approx ten years ago, he rode it into the ground and is now going to pay approx $5000 to ride it into the ground again. Hes not into paint or Chrome just a good old reliable bike thats different. Dont forget that $5000 Canadian is approx $3700 American. Guzzis are rare in my part of the country so when ones available it becomes very desirable.

So...the '70s had the single-speedo alloy dash?
'70 was the "crossover" year - some had the single instrument dash, others had the double instrument. Same with the battery covers - some had the early type, some had the larger, later type with "grill".
-
$5000 in patina right there.... isn't that considered gold dust for the red suspender crowd?

It should read...
"Pay me top dollar now before my meticulously maintained original chrome bores blow up while you own it, not me".

More Great info! My rat '70 I will eventually get running is missing the sidecovers, and I wondered which were correct. Now I know I can source the later type, which I prefer.
I also prefer the 2-guage dash, so I won't even be wrong if I go that route, either!

Yep .

"Most of the ones you see that come up for sale are basket cases or unrecognizable as the original classic Ambo."
This bike, like most loved and well used Loops is a 47 year old bike that is past due for a rebuild of everything. To go through all the mechanical and electrical components I would budget at least $3K, this not beginning to touch the cosmetics which will eat up another $5K in paint, chrome, polishing etc.
As far as projects go, which is what I see this as, $2500 would be the ceiling in my book.

For the listing ad.                       $5K NOT.
