Title: CARC leak diagnosis
Post by: canuck750 on February 04, 2018, 09:58:04 AM
A friend has a V11 Sport with a leak at the joint of the CARC bevel box to where it mates the swing arm. These new fangled Guzzi’s are beyond my knowledge. Is this a minor fix and if so what should I be looking for? I want to help my friend with the fix but don’t want to get into what I can’t finish.

Thanks

Jim

Errrr? Jim? The V11 Sport isn't a CARC bike. Can you clarify a bit?

See I know even less than I thought!! My friend showed me a picture of the leak coming out of the Rear drive where it meets the swing arm. I just thought that was a CARC box, sorry for confusing things.

Is there an O ring ang gasket seal like a Tonti drive?

The V11 Sport rear drive floats and is exposed. It does not mate to a swingarm.

Can you share the photo.

There's an oil seal on the input shaft. My WAG is that's the problem. #17 in this illustration:

Yup. This is where the confusion is coming from. The V11 has a reactive rear end but all of the parts of it are, if you like, exposed. With the CARC all the same gubbins except the reaction arm are contained within the castings of the swingarm and final drive.

Both have a pinion seal, both can leak, but where the oil appears and how to go about fixing it is different between the two systems.

My 1100 Sport has just started to Leak from the same place. At least the silly little bearing that the drive rotates on is getting lubricated. I have tried burping the pressure from the box ( a lot of pressure had built up ) and now I will try it again. Otherwise it's a strip and replace the little seal in the drive.
Cheers, voncrump.
