Title: Winter barn storage.
Post by: BOAT on February 05, 2018, 07:37:35 AM
Most years I ride often in winter, at least when roads are dry. But some years either bad weather or work gets in the way. Since I have a wood stove heated barn-shop for the large garage, there`s heat only when I need it. The changes in weather can create a nasty situation of moisture condensing all over the bike. It always happens when cold, below freezing temps are followed by a warm, moist air mass. You know how it is: bike stays wet, inside and out, inviting CORROSION into corrosion-prone electrics.

I have thought about tenting with a heater (not for long). Maybe running a fan so as to keep the air moving (a house solution for winter mold in moist, stagnant areas).

Any ideas on this could be appreciated.

I think I'd rather buy a lectric dipstick for the oil, it'll stay nice & warm.

Years ago I had the same requirement. I found a fully enclosed tent like (zippers, attached floor), that included a small fan and a light bulb. Worked great. Simple enough to duplicate w/found items.
You might look/ask around boat people. Similar challenges. Small amount of dry heat with plenty of air circulation is essential. I've seen many snow covered cars and trucks with 'block heaters' cooking the oil. The local atmosphere is still cycling between 100% wet and never dry enough.  R3~
