As I get my Cal 14 ready for a multi week trip, I have begun to look at dry bags for the gear that won’t fit in the panniers, (Tent, sleeping bag etc). since I decided to keep the stock seat, and have the foam rebuilt with higher density foam and a tail bone channel, I won’t have a backrest. Looking for experience on bags that work well for this double duty bag. As always thanks in advance

I have Seal Line bags that I like a lot. They are dive bags and have a rollable opening that can be made completely watertight. They double as actual dive bags. I tow them behind the kayak. There are a LOT of counterfeit and knockoff Seal Line products. The real deal is spendy, but mine have been dragged down beaches, over barnacles, and through airports for 25+ years. I think one needs a patch, finally. Do your research.
I've also got a Guy Cotten side opening duffel. It is very roomy. It has pros and cons. Pros -- roomy, hi-vis, good hardware, side opening for better access. Cons: roomy (stuff gets lost in there), has zipper with Velcro weather flap. Not really WATERPROOF the way the Seal-Line bags are.
Recently I bought a large WOLFMAN dry bag used from a member here. It's got the roll opening like a Seal line but a different strap/securing arrangement. It's working out ok, but I prefer the Seal Line. It's intended to expand and collapse with cargo. That's a good thing.
Those are the ones I've had/have that I like. I've cheaped out a lot over the years and use the failures for things like toting duck decoys and equipment -- things that don't need to stay dry.

The large black Aerostich/Ortlieb bag that we have has been everywhere. It's our overseas flight "checked" bag because the most malicious gorilla in baggage handling can't damage or destroy it. It's Fay's backrest on any bike we happen to be on that has a luggage rack but no top box. It's absolutely waterproof, and big enough that you can live out of it on the road for weeks ....

I have several Ortlieb bags that are outstanding, but the SW Motech Drybag 350 (in fluorescent yellow) is my current favorite for camping gear. The flat bottom, roll-top closure, and mounting system make it particularly good for motorcycling.

What strapping are you using? That looks secure. I was planning that type of bag, but was concerned about the bag slipping back as I used it to lean against.

I wasn't going to answer the original question because it seemed it was covered, though I'll answer it now. We've been using an Ortlieb from Aerostich for a decade or two on various bikes.
But for the follow up question, on all our bikes we strap them to luggage racks, grab handles, frame, whatever using a pair of $3 or so nylon pull straps (purchased from Dick's Sporting Goods) marketed for rolling/securing sleeping bags.
They are easily secured and have never loosened.

I got this 30x14 inch bag for $15. Very inexpensive and heavy duty material. The 2nd link is for a 24x12 for $13 from the same manufacturer.

Watershed bags. Not real well known. Google them. Pricey but worth it. I have Sealine bags. Nothing wrong with them either.

Can't go wrong with Ortlieb (used to be sold by BestRest also), but I also use Givi's 40L waterproof duffle as the seat bag on the 1100 Sport. Robust, fits well.

As a bushwalker I have a fair bit of Mountain Design Gear (From Australia)
I use their 60 litre Dry Duffle as a back stop tied down with $5.00 Elasticated cords (bungee Straps)
I also have a series of various sized "Sea to Summit" Dry bags that I pack my food,sleeping bag, sleeping mat and spare clothes into to be doubly sure.
Works for me.

I have a few of their roll top bags to use in the panniers for the sleeping bag and other stuff that must stay dry
They do some bike (push or motor) specific bags with extra lashing points too

Another option, although not cheap, is Helen 2 Wheels. I have a couple of those bags and they do a good job. Loops for tie down straps, and never leaked. I can't remember how many years I have been using them now, but never a leak. They have a variety of sizes and how they load. (Some across the top, and some on the end.
