I had one, did a 1,500 mile 3 day trip thru Ohio, Kentucky, WV, Virginia, Tennessee & NC. I was so tired an the way back when we hit Deals Gap I just wanted it to end. Was a torture rack. My wife has a Ducati 1098 and it is way better, lower pegs and taller bars.

why do you have to ride it 500-700 miles in a day.. I'm old... but sure could totally enjoy it in 100-200 mile stints.. or even just to the lake 50 miles away.. that bike ROCKS! like nothing Guzzi has or will ever offer.
how far did the guy ride to get to your office today? I bet he had more fun than you did on the commute.

It's not miserable on a bike that is properly prepared and appropriate for the trip. My Stelvio is quite happy with 1000+ mile days, and my Norge would just be getting its second wind at that mark. Each has multiple documented IronButt rides and many more not documented.
Now, I do have to say that the only modern Aprilia V-twin I would consider for long-distance is the Caponord. I also have to say that if I were to buy an Aprilia sport-bike, it would have a V-4. If I hadn't recently found a wonderful Griso, a Tuono would have been on my radar.

I have one its more comfortable than the 1100 sport fuel range is garbage and the motor needs to be between 8-11000 rpm to get it going its pretty bland under that. The Italian V twin you buy when you actually wanted a Honda. I rate it as meh.

I should clarify...I meant 500-700 miles (round trip) over a 2-3 day weekend! :wink: 350-400 miles in day is my limit anymore! :cool: Yes, for short jaunts....50-100 miles...that Aprilia would be a blast!
My colleague probably rode 10 miles to work one way...and yes, he had more fun than my 122 mile, 2-hour, one way Mon. morning commute!! :shocked: :huh: :rolleyes:

Amazingly, these can be bought for $3-4 thousand bucks. A friend just picked up a light blue version, with under 10k miles, for $3500. From a Dealer. They had it for over a year in inventory. Lot of bike for the money.
If I wanted an Aprilia that I could do long days on, I would choose more wisely...

In 2010 or 11' I wandered into a failing Aprilia dealer(redundant). They had a leftover 2008 Tuono R Factory demo on the floor for $6,995. It had 3-400 miles on it. I didn't buy it and regret it to this day. Probably the single dumbest motorcycle related decision I've ever made.

No worries...and don't look back...If you really want one...they are out there! I came close several times to buying a Tuono...like this one...but never pulled the trigger... :wink: :cool:

I picked the Tuono in 2016 and have enjoyed it. It is comfortable and the handling is outrageous. It is a gas hog but to be expected with this type of bike. For the street however it is stupidly fast, with the emphasis on stupid. It's been a kind of love hate relationship as it is intoxicating to ride but you are in constant danger of loosing your licence or going straight to jail. It's been a real lesson in self control. The v4 is a great motor with lot's of grunt down low and front wheel lifting power throughout the range. It is happy to plod along sanely if you chose to do so, but it really begs to go like hell. :evil:

- Because you can.
- Because it's fun.
- Because you want to get there in one day.
- Because you just don't want to stop.
And probably a dozen more...

Nope. It's an adventure. Rain or shine, hot or cold. Prepare, be ready, and go. It's fun. It's why I do it. If it was miserable, I'd buy a cadillac.

If you're having enough fun size doesn't matter? If that bike is too heavy or you're too old perhaps a daily tune up on a rowing machine will help. Works for me. Except for 400#+ bikes it's always a hoot. R3~

Ive moved MT-->NC and back a couple times, had many multi-week road trips. I hate it. Had to drive the gf to Shrieveport and back in 2 days last year at 13hrs behind the wheel both ways... ugh
12hrs on the road is miserable, bike, car or motorcycle

Maybe the fact that they're 14 or 15-year-old orphans now ... ? I'd love one, I think it would suit me fine, but parts and getting them fixed if you can't do it yourself somehow ... ?

I know; we actually have a dealer here in town. It's the "discontinued in 2004" or whenever part that worries me. How long will they keep "maps", chips, parts, etc for the things?
For some old bikes, it doesn't matter; I can still get Guzzi parts, but they're essentially making the same bikes as they used to. Or maybe I'm just not familiar enough with them that it seems a mystery.
They sure were nice bikes.

Rotex 990 twin is used by Can Am also, or was. Very capable and no vibration, it'll COOK your goose in a heartbeat.
That engine has had 4 different management systems on it, which is different.
