Hi all, I'm considering buying one of the small, portable li-on battery chargers to keep in my back pack. Does anyone have any experience with them or any recommendations?

I'm looking for something maybe like OP is asking. About the size of a cigarette pack for easy storage on the bike, not 50amp jump start, but 10ish amp boost. I have a cold morning start issue with the Harley. At home, I can use a charger for boost. One the road, would love a boost if I ever need it.

I have an Anti Gravity one. Works well. I was able to jump a dead car and a Yanmar diesel boat engine with it. Comes in a little bag with connectors and alligator clips. I can’t remember offhand which model I have.

I have a ctek lithium xs. Bigger than a cigarette pack, but can definitely fit in a backpack.
Comes with ring connectors and alligator clips too. Works very well but maybe a bit on the expensive side.

I like the ctek chargers. Super easy to use, well made and works well. Also have a small one for normal lead acid batteries.

I've been carrying the Schumacher portable jump starter/powerpack for the last couple of years on my bike. Fortunately I've never needed it myself, but I have used it to jump start someone else's car once, worked like a charm and once charged, it holds its charge for a very long time.

Are you talking about a JUMP STARTER or a CHARGER?
I have a jump starter in all of my vehicles. They hold a charge for month and months. And they can be used to charge a phone. I just get the cheap ones from Amazon or Walmart. Get one rated for the amps you need. A lot of people have had issues with the high priced units swelling up and failing. No point in over paying for something that will go bad.

:bow:the small cigarette pack sized jump starters are worthwhile. Easier to carry in luggage than the bigger ones. Can jump start bikes, cars & small diesels. Also phones, tablets & computers. Recharging from the bike's battery works, but that can drain the bike's battery & then you'll need it to jump start the bike. Very useful at rallies on the morning of departure - there's often a few bikes having trouble starting. I take mine on every trip. It sometimes gets used to jump start vehicles, but more often to keep the phone & tablet going. I picked mine up from Jaycar some years back, but there are later versions now on the market that are even longer lasting - check the amp hour ratings. Google & eBay are your friends.

I have a $30 Amazon unit that I picked up to deal with startus interruptus on my Carc bikes. Still works fine at 3 yrs old - just last week I jump started a friend's V8 Tahoe.

Expensive but I know the one time I leave the portable unit at home I would need it. :( This way it is always there and charged. Expensive but worth it to me.

Hi Wayne, My fault. I should have been more clear. I'm considering a jump starter. I have a'98 EV-11 and with a new alternator, regulator, rectifier & battery I still have issues. Seems like it's only a matter of time before she strands me. I'm going to identify the full problem in a new post & ask for ideas.

After looking at the ones listed, they were a bit big for how I would carry it. I has hoping for something like a cigarette pack or maybe a cell phone size.
I did find one that should be a cell phone size. Once here, I will try it on my Harley when it does it's cold start issue. If the bike sits for a few days, sometimes just overnight, it doesn't like to start in the morning acting like a weak battery. Just a few seconds (like long enough to stand up after plugging it in) on a battery charger at 10amp is all it takes to make it crank normally, that is with the charger assisting. Hopefully this will do the trick. I'll let you know how it goes.
