Very nice

Thats a cool looking , original. Its nice that they kept it that way, and didnt make a chopped lead sled kustom out of it.

Here's another classic American Beauty, built in relatively low volume.
I think I posted this pic earlier, but what the heck, one more time.
Buick only built this factory custom for two years. The 1953 pictured here was (to me) lovely. The following year, not so much.
The '53 had similar fender lines to the Jag XK 120, but was nearly 2x the size, or looked that way. A nicely restored '53 isn't cheap, and there weren't many built.

JJ, my older brother who passed in Nov 2014, sold Buicks part time when going to college. He was 12 years older than I was, but we were still close. I'll never forget the day he pulled up in front of our house in a lovely 1955 Buick Super 2 door hardtop and said "jump in, lets go for a ride!" This big Buick V8, with Dynaflo transmission, was such a departure from my dad's 1952 Pontiac Star Chief with straight eight and Hydromatic. The Buick felt like a 'magic carpet' ride by comparison. I loved the 1954 models, especially the bigger bodied models (Super and Roadmaster.) They were the cross-over vehicles for Buick ..... they still had the familiar Buick grill, but they'd gone to a wrap around windshield, and the trademark chrome strip down the side.
Loved my Buicks! Thanks for the great photo of the 54 Roadmaster.

I remember those huge Buicks with straight 8, overhead valve engines. Back in the day when GM designers had the freedom to design their own engines and transmissions, and even design different suspension systems. Although Buicks, Olds and Caddy often had variations of the same body work, Buick had their unique Dynaflow tranny, as well as coil spring suspension at all four wheels. And a torque tube than enclosed the driveshaft. Buicks were indeed different.

My dad had a Henry J (made by KAISER) I think it must have been built on a jeep chassis?? Small two door and it had one tail light and a 3 speed manual transmission. Flat head 4 cylinder.. what a machine!
In case you forgot what they looked like...1952 Henry J Corsair Deluxe!! :thumb: :1:

Had to see if I could find a good sound track of an old Buick straight eight with Dynaflow. I think this is as good as it gets. Should appeal to Convert riders, since the tranny is basically a torque converter, doesn't shift thru gears.

The hot rodders called them "nailheads." The official Buick literature called them "Vertical Valve V Eights." I remember, even when GM began standardizing on engines across several lines, Buick continued to shape their valve covers so that it appeared they were covering 'vertical valves.'

They're either Cords or Auburns. But not 'coffin nose' Cords.
Here's a pic of a three of them on their way to the Cord Auburn Dusenburg meet in Indiana a few years ago. These folks were driving from the West Coast to Indiana in these beautiful old cars!
The year ...... 2009.
I took the pics where I was staying for the evening ..... just outside of Cody, WY, at the Yellowstone Park Inn.

When taking auto mechanics in high school myself and another student were sent to a local junkyard to get a Dynaflow that we had to remove from the car at the junkyard. It wasn't a dark and stormy night but it was a damn cold and windy November day. Do not have fond memories of Dynaflows.

The blue one is a 1941 Graham Hollywood...the beige(tan?) one is essentially the same car but is a Hupmobile Skylark...Hupp was already failing and partnered with failing Graham in desperate attempt to stay alive...the two cars represent the swan song for both...

This is another historical American marque....
Obviously a '38...something...*hint* the make of this automobile become a model in the line of manufacturer which absorbed it...

Never thought about Graham Paige. I think I thought they were Cords because of the absence of running boards. But I definitely couldn't identify the grills! Thanks for the info. Always like to learn more about cars from the late 1930s.

Those Henry J's looked OK with a little paint and "detailing".

I had a friend in HS that had one set up like this, with a 327 Chevy set back 25%. You had to sit in the back seat area. His was his daily driver!

... and an Imperial. Chrysler had them for a LONG time as a "premium" model like Mercury was for Ford.
"Frank Sinatra drives an Imperial" probably sold more of them than anything else ... !

Here is another cool Buick - 1956 Series 40 Special
This one is a convertible, but my Dad had one just like, only a hardtop, same two-tone color and all. :thumb:
I remember it was HUGE "whale" and at 50-60 mph....cars rarely pulled out in front of us!!

It was during this era that Buick knocked Plymouth out of third place in US sales. It was Ford and Chevy (or Chevy and Ford,) then Buick, followed by Plymouth. My uncle owned a 1956 Special 4 door hardtop (white top/black body.) He ordered this 'smaller' Buick without power steering or power brakes. I drove it often, and parking it could be a real workout.

Here's another mid 1950s car I really liked at the time ...... the Chrysler 300. Believe it was the first American car that had bragging rights to 300hp. A Fiat 500 Abarth would most likely beat one in a 0-60mph drag, but the sheer mass of these machines made them feel incredibly powerful. The first 300 came out in 1955. This pic is a 1956 model.

On my 2009 Alaska trip I stopped one night at a cabins/campground near the junction of the Cassier Hwy and the Alaska Hwy. Also there was the Bentley tour. There were about a dozen early cars and several "newer" ones.

Anyone else recall the fire that destroyed GM's nearly brand new hydramatic plant? Livonia, MI 1953. Their only hydramatic plant. It was replaced w/in an extraordinarily short time; I think using an empty, nearby K-F plant. For 3 or 4 months Oldsmobiles were getting dynaflow transmissions. A neighbor had one. It could actually smoke the tires.
A few years later I bought used, the only GM vehicle that worked well for me. A 50 coupe, one piece windshield, 3 speed. Added hi-lift rockers, ignition, 2 - 4barrels, headers, shocks and strapped the rear coils some. R3~
