Thirty-nine years ago, this month, spending the night along Fall River, miles upriver from Oroville, California in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The bike is a '73 Police 850 (Eldorado) and the tent cost me just over $5, new.

Nice bike; terrible brakes.

Did your tent leak? My first tent in 74 taught me the difference between water resistant and waterproof. :embarrassed:

:thumb: And in the snow!

Did your tent leak?
Yes; all the seams leaked, no matter how I tried to seal them. Also, it had such poor ventilation, that even if it didn't rain, I'd wake up with the inside surfaces wet. Well, five bucks is five bucks...

Is there a contest? Then I'll offer this one up from forty years ago. Same bike, same tent, but, this time we're in Iowa near the Missouri River.
I'm sure the tent lived up to its not-very-waterproof billing on this night...

later in South Dakota it had a chance to dry out (does the shadow of a Guzzi, count?)...

How long did the $5 tent last?

I used it pretty heavily for six years and then replaced it with a more waterproof dome tent. But, here is it in 1983 in somebody's front yard (I asked first) in West Virginia (the white Guzzi now painted black).

I lived in Sutter at the time, you should have stopped by!

thanks again, Daniel..

In some of the pic's it looks as though the fly is made of terrycloth, could that have had something to do with its lack of water tightness?

I did a mess of camping on horseback but only once on a bike. My son and I did a mountain trip. It rained and we both woke up wet and he got sick, last camping trip on the motorbike.
