Title: Guzzi Nevada Digiplex question.
Post by: ratguzzi on April 19, 2018, 04:39:19 AM
Ok, I am back in Swiebodzin Poland for work with my poor starting Nevada. Early morning, no spark even with 12vdc to the Digiplex. Then after trying and trying, it will instantly start and run perfect and restart all day long until the next morning. If in a shed, it will start in the morning but not when left outside.
So, not sure why we didn't try this last year but my friend's sister also has a Nevada. I installed her Digiplex and the bike has been starting perfectly in the morning.
Now all over Europe, a used Guzzi/Ducati unit is between $150-$300. Older Fiats used the Digiplex 2S as well and I can get them all day long for $10-$20! I googled all I could and it seems like the worst case would be a different advance curve. Anyone here know more on this?

JB,

I can't answer you question about the Fiat car ECU, but I have another avenue for you.  MyECU of Australia used to offer replacement ECUs for old Guzzis.  I'm not sure they still have some in stock, but they may a unit kicking around.  Price-wise it's about the same as a used Digiplex, but the advantage is that the MyECU is new, and they also have a strong support forum.

I appreciate it but it looks like he doesn't cover the Digiplex years when the small block was still carburated.
I will gamble $10-$20 and try out one from an old Fiat just to confirm yes or no on it.

I had a car that did that years ago and it was a problem of moisture causing a path for a high voltage leak.  On mornings when it was left outside I had to spray down the coil, distributor and leads with WD40 to remove the moisture and then it would start.  Eventually I replaced the distributor cap and wires and the problem went away.

did you switch back to your "non working" unit to see if it works not? reason I ask, maybe the connection was corroded

When I was here last time, the bike did the same thing and I cleaned all connections, new relay, etc. This morning damp as usual and the bike started perfectly. Yes, I could put the other module in it.
As luck would have it, one of the engineers here owned a Fiat Uno a few years ago and still has a brand new Fiat Digiplex 2S that he ended up not needing. I will have that next Monday and will be able to answer 100% if the Fiat module will work in a Guzzi.
