Title: #$@$ Broken spoke $#@$
Post by: oldbike54 on April 24, 2018, 07:25:30 PM
I knew better than to check the spoke tension on the old Jackal . One just goes thud when tapped with a screwdriver , sure enough it is broken in the hub . I don't have the large snap ring tool , any suggestions .

Oh well , at least the tire is off , and the gooyey rim tape is removed .

The really bad part of this is that I changed a couple of spokes on a friend's rear wheel not 5 years ago . Like a guy said to me recently , "I have a good memory , it just doesn't last very long"

Broken one is out , new one going in .

Ting , ting , ting

Have decided to do a tubeless conversion to the rim , started today , will finish tomorrow (I hope)
Seemed like the time , and I am just so damned tired of the aggravation of getting the valve stem thru the hole in the rim .

Me too, took me a long time to get it but doing it now.
I did one with tiger seal, like goop but not really happy even though it holds air
Trying 3m 4411N tape, seems best you can buy, what are you using ?
Trick is cleanliness whichever way

Gutter sealant . Don't laugh , the stuff is amazing . True about the cleanliness , spent about an hour making sure it is clean .

With no tape?
Tiger Seal is prob same stuff bit I can’t do is finish it neatly, so sticky to anything. If this tape sticks thoroughly to aluminium, no need to bog each nipple.
Is also sold as gutter seal, Guzzi people considered near gutter anyway, we are riding ditchpumps !

The butyl rubber is taking forever to dry , won't put the tire on until it is . Fubar thinks it should be dry by Memorial Day

Yeah , for two days . Seems maybe the product was either old , or something else was wrong. It never skimmed over , so I have removed about 90 % of it with gasoline and a brush . Call this a failed experiment . Oh well .

Probably , except the first layer was already as thin as I could get it .

Man, if you can make a boat out of screen wire like on the tee bee, you ought to be able to solve this..
