Currently working on a '86 LeMans and have a question. The crank has been drilled upon inspection. The journals look new, timing gears look new, crosshatch still visible. Do you think I should send this crank in to see if it is balanced correctly?

The bike is looking really sharp! In my opinion it looks like it has already been balanced. I don't think someone would just randomly drill holes there like that, but then again... that is always a possibility!

That's looking good! I think you owe us some more pictures of the process now that you have posted it in the build area ;)

On the crank, it would be weird for someone to randomly drill holes in a crank, but then again some people have all sorts of funny ideas. Did you run the bike with it before? If not I think I would send it off to a balancer

I didn't take any pictures, but IIRC mine had a bunch of holes like that too.

Don't worry about it if it rode well before. Balance factors are voodoo anyway, not so much for durability as comfort. (anymore)

While we were taking the engine out, I got it hung up, I have never gotten a Guzzi hung up, but there it was! It was a bitch getting it out!!
Got everything disassembled and sand blasted the frame, then painted it with a single stage black. Had a friend Vapor blast the wheels and I put a coating on them. With the engine and tranny I just sand blasted them, then glass beaded them. The fork lowers I polished them, we have all new bearings in all completed jobs. Haven't done the engine, but looks like all bearings are in excellent condition.

Scares me hearing about frame sand blasting. Since the breather system utilizes the frame, I sure hope no sand got in there! It can lunch the engine if it has.

Or you could go to another breather system that doesn't use the frame. I've heard the frame often rusts internally from the breather fumes and condensation.

Scares me more when I read that someone has sandblasted engine and tranny cases...

Yeah, me too. Sand goes everywhere, gets lodged in the aluminum and can be really difficult to remove it all.

Standing next to it ....it looks like it just rolled off the line Scotty...impeccable work.

And I'm glad to see Owen dreaming about riding it.
