Title: Anybody look at this Ambo in Maine, CL ad?
Post by: brider on May 04, 2018, 08:04:02 AM
https://maine.craigslist.org/mcy/6575263355.html

Seller says the PO replaced the pistons and cyls ~15k miles ago, but states they are NOT nikasil. ?????? I pressed him further, and he said there is no "Gilardoni" cast on the bottom of the cyl barrels. Says it tests out @ 165 psi both cyls, runs fine, he's been riding it.

What should one assume without pulling a plug and threading a magnet in? If the PO DID actually replace cylinders, what is the likelihood he went back with chrome?

I was asked if I would go take a look at it for a friend here and I agreed that I could however, I have not heard back from either the seller or perspective buyer to follow up on it.
If what you are saying is that there is no tell tale on the castings according to the seller then I too would suspect a Non-Gilardoni set of cylinders has been installed.

Wondering IF the PO had any documentation on the top end replacement...?

It does look to be a fairly complete Ambo with a redone seat...

Good luck,
Rob

Could be that the cylinders were bored, and have had iron liners installed, or been nikasi plated.
Definitely do the magnet test.
