2014 Norge with 8000 miles, GPR Albus (dB killer in place), colostomy bag in place, stock intake. This is a bit of a non-issue as I seldom need or want to be at redline levels anyway but I'm curious.... I've been re-mapping with Beetle maps and just getting to a recent update with a late arriving ride season here in Wisconsin. I've done some spirited (for me) riding to develop a current base-point and have noticed that running much past 7000rpm just sounds busy and seems to not add much in propulsion. I put the new map on today (for GPR-equipped Norges) and gave things a run through the gears and had the same sort of feeling.
It does everything I want for the riding I do. Easy starting, smooth running, linear acceleration, good mileage and has good, long legs for brisk riding. Do others experience this same basic behavior and is it just the general nature of the engine? I have little need for that part of the rev range but wonder if this is just a normal characteristic of this engine?

The 8V peaks at ~7300 RPM, and is generally flat till about 8000, then drops off rapidly. I set the rev limit at 8500. You should be able to hit the rev limiter in 5th easily. It takes a bit of patience in 6th.

What year model? Has the top end ever been apart? I don’t think it’s likely to be the issue as the point at which you say it goes flat is a bit high but having the cam timing a tooth out will lead to a sudden flattening out of power but usually closer to 6,000 than 7,000.

Thanks, guys. I couldn't be happier with how it's running and mainly just curious. I was on a 200 mile loop today with all types of roads and it feels like an electric motor at 80mph on the freeway and felt perfect on curvy, varied-speed roads and loads. That got me 42 mpg (5.6L/100km) that could be easily improved on with more moderate riding. It almost felt like valve float, with the thrust dropping off so clearly between 7000 and 8000rpm. I don't want to change a thing. Thanks for the effort on these maps, Beetle!

I’d be tempted to check the cam timing ‘Just in case’ but I’m probably being a bit paranoid
