Title: V7 2013 Spark Plug Cables

As park of my current “stumbling, high reving, quitting & darkening left muffler” challenge, I’ve decided to replace my plug wires to eliminate them as the source of my possible random short.

Anyone know the wire size and any precautions I need to take related to core type? Any wire source recommendations?  I’m thinking of RED wires just to be different.

The parts list just mentions “HT wire”. 

I plan on buying new 90 degree end pieces and boots from MG to put on the new wires to attach to the coils.  I’ll then run plastic tubing over the new wires for added insulation and finish them off with new NGK XD05F caps.

I’m also tempted to replace the left coil while I have the tank off.  I’ve read that when they fail it can be an intermittent failure with symptoms somewhat like I’ve experienced.

Any thoughts?

If you have a multimeter measure from the cap to the chassis on each side, it won't tell you if its arcing to ground but will
indicate if there's a break.
Both sides should read the same.

I don't have any time for the resistor leads, certainly not if you have resistor caps.
What plugs are you using, some of those have resistors as well.

Plugs are NGK CPR8EA-9

These work with the upgraded caps.

The red wires (and caps) are available through NGK Racing.

MGcycle also sells the red wire apparently

These are 7mm which fits the XD05F

According to NGK site, XD05F fits either 7 or 8mm core

Since you are pulling the old out, why not run a micrometer and see what size is it

If it is 7mm, any reason I can’t use an 8mm?

Are there any spark plug wire core issues (type) I need to be aware of?

Copper core seems to be the way to go, according to the gurus.

Check the hole in the coils. Probably 7mm.

If it is 7mm, will the coil accept 8mm? I had poor results with the crimp on coil ends tht MG sells.
