Title: Anyone near Pittsburgh available to help this woman selling these guzzi ?
Post by: arveno on June 13, 2018, 09:58:43 PM
I think someone has to gently explain her what she got and what is worth .

I do not see any LAPD but i see a nice V700 , her asking price are a little bit too optimistic ...

Thanks

I was going to try and see these this weekend. A fellow I do work for is interested. At this price I do not think they are going anywhere fast. Always a sensitve subject on asking price. You never know what she was told by her husband or a loved one regarding value.

You might suggest that she check the completed sales figures for bikes like hers on eBay.  That’s probably the best source for market prices.

Just two caveats for eBay as a market price source.

1) Sometimes there's a "flier", one that sells for a massive price, and tends to be the "example" everyone uses.

2) "Completed" sales don't always mean completed.   Even if it says "sold", often the same bike, same seller shows up again in a week.    In one three month period, 6 out of 10 BSA sales shown as "sold" really weren't ....

...probably those guzzis "worth" half or less then half of what she is thinking they worth. The "news" would hit her hard and because they belong to the husband , there is ot of sentimental value involved.

the V700 seems original paint though , that could sell for 4 ? 4.5 ? ( being a little generous considered the situation )

I feel sorry for her and the husband looks like he had good taste for motorcycles and cars , i see an airhead and a beetle too....

Yeah, touchy subject. That red '72 Eldo looks stock and very desirable, but the poor old woman wouldn't like it if someone swooped in and aggressively tried to offer a fair price, which to her would come off as trying to swindle her out of them. Betcha anything her husband inflated the value of them, maybe just to justify their existence (I've done that.....). If she's stubborn they could sit there for a long time, but at least they're in a garage......

So if one was interested wouldn't the polite and respectful thing to do would be to compliment her and her late husband on them, talk about them positively, give her some feedback on market pricing, make an offer and hand her a phone number and tell her to take her time/do her own research and call if she agrees.

No pressure, lets her know you're serious, and you realize there's no real danger of them being sold out from under you unless you were wrong about the value and then kudos to her.

Win/Win?

It would be nice if there was someone locally that could help determine the state of the cylinders on the bikes. That would be a biggie regarding the sale price of the various bikes. I'm thinking borescope through the spark plug hole ought to do it.

Dear all,  Your concern for this "poor old woman" (I'm 54 and really don't consider myself to be old ) is appreciated but unwarranted.   First, I do know what are current market values - I did post 'em high to keep trolls away!  Second, I've already sold 3 of the bikes (a little more than ya'll think they should have sold for but I'm ok with getting more than what you think they are worth and I have a party interested in buying the whole lot!   Third, golly "brider" shame on you for fibbing to your wife - my husband never over-valued 'cause he knew I could call his bluff with just a little internet surfing!

Appreciate your concern (although perhaps just a tad condescending, I'm sure with good intentions.)   I do know what I have - my husband bought and sold European motorcycles and cars for over 30 years.

Thanks again but I don't believe I really need any help getting these sold.

Poor Old Lady in Pittsburgh!

Deat "Poor little old lady in Pittsburgh" ,

I seriously doubt that anyone here was attempting to insult you , and we are certainly pleased that you have managed sell three bikes already for what you deemed a fair price  :thumb:

Here is the deal , we see this type of thing happen every so often , and often times what occurs is the seller becomes angry when they are offered fair market value for a motorbike . Since we didn't have any real information on you , the group was merely seeing this as one of those situations .

Once again , congratulations , and sorry for your loss , your husband sounds like he was a good guy .

 Dusty

Dear "old lady". Sorry about your husband but I loved your story about his and your history. Good luck
A lot us here would loved to have had a 30 year history of buying and selling Euro bikes and cars!

Thanks all!  No offense taken (got a good chuckle though!)      I would like to ask your opinions on a Guzzi basketcase I found in garage attic (this is one that he must have snuck home 'cause I don't remember buying it - LOL)    I have frame, tank, seat, saddlebags & hardware, and trunk - plus i have 2 guzzi motors downstairs - any thoughts on pricing these would be greatly appreciated!

Performa,  collect the serial numbers of the frame  engines and bikes you are selling. Someone on this forum will help you identify them to potential buyers. The value of the engines and indeed the bikes are dependent on if the motors have had updated cylinders. Sitting did not help the engines on these older bikes and more and more customers know this these days. Good luck.  :thumb:

What a cool collection!  Stick to your guns and get what it is worth.  Don't listen to the naysayers on this board!
