This morning, I read a post from someone wanting a "Like" button. In all honesty, I had already set that up a while back, but completely forgot to turn it on.
Anyhow, it's active now. Hope you "like" it :thumb:

How does “liking” something effect the post? Does it elevate the thread or the post?
If it’s the same as Facebook I don’t know how that works either

I'm not sure exactly, but I'm betting not. One benefit of it is you might not want to reply to something, but you do anyways to let someone know you liked it and by clicking the like button instead of replying, it actually saves disk space, bandwidth, etc.

Oh no , we are going all facebookie
Seriously , that seems to be the main purpose of a "like" button , it tells someone you have bothered to read their post and appreciated what they had to say .
Oh heck , guess I could have just hit the button , sorry :copcar:

That’s pretty cool Luap, faster way to reply in case something shiny goes by or maybe a squirrel in the yard

Oh lord, it's going to be another thing like the "ignore" button, like a high-school "Character Book" that circulates around so you can show you like someone or not just by putting a mark by their name .... Maybe Facebook will die soon .... ?

I hope I get a lot of "Likes", otherwise my self-esteem will go down and I will get all depressed and stuff. Nah, I don't thinks so.

That's what used to happen with "Ignores". People would come on and say "Oh what have I done, I have 2 Ignores, why do people hate me so, why can't we just all get along, how can I make up for my horrible faults?"
Looks like we could just discuss without people feeling like they have to hold up scorecards, or manage their self-esteem, or judging other folks. But that's not today's world ....

Ahhh, the days of the old “ignore button” so many worthless discussions about that back in the day!

I like it. :thumb: If you appreciate a post you don't have to "quote" it to let the OP know it.

No matter how hard you try to make something better there is always one person saying something negative .

Of course. The goal is complete universality of opinion, everyone liking and wanting the same thing.
Anything else is "negativity", "peeing in people's Wheaties", "naysaying".
Me, I believe in "diversity" (people can have and express different opinions about things) and "tolerance" (not personally attacking people if they think differently than you do, like calling them a "Richard").
But that's just me.

Can we get a dislike button or is that just for Dusty and Rocker.....

HAH! I have a total of 10 likes, Dusty only has 6, and YOU only have two. Nyah nyah, people like me better than you so I don't have to listen to you nyah nyah!
'Course, that'll change pretty quick but for the moment I'm basking in my "People LIKE me!!" spotlight ...

I think a dislike button would be cool. I notice things like that, nothing bad about you.
The year after I quit farming, the Ag dept sent out paperwork for the Set Aside acres program. The number on the paperwork was 666 and they got many calls on it from farmers that were not putting their signature on that form. Just weird stuff.
-
And I just noticed that we get “Likes” totaled and you have one more than me. Think I should strive for 665 or so....

so it is not just my imagination as I just had a high 40C fever over the weekend... :blank:
Thanks again for the hard work...and yes, there are times I just want to "thank the person" without spamming the post...a Like button will do just that :D
-
Well, I appreciate the feature. Thank you.
-
I just noticed that when I click the count for the number of likes (on a single post), I see a list of all those who pressed the "like" button.
This should be swell for mapping the memberships of cliques, cabals, and other mutual-admiration societies!

Thanks Luap, good feature. 'Like' a more efficient :1:

It makes a lot more sense than making a post that says nothing but " :1:".

Eggzactly ^^^^^
how do I pad my post count without a few :1:'s thrown in there???

I'm not sure some folks really get how it's supposed work, I might be one of them. Seems like an awful lot of posts, even in this thread have a like or two, for as I can see very little reason?
Seems like someone might want to like the OP, seems simple enough, but then there are people liking subsequent individual posts in the thread. I get the feeling folks are going to get "like" happy and start liking all kinds of pedestrian posts? Will this start a competition, who can get the most likes? What if my friends wont talk to me in the hallways? Do these jeans make my ass look big?
-
Yes Chad , those jeans make your ass look fat .

I new it. Am I supposed too "like " your post now???

I'm old guard, and don't think I like the 'Like' button. Just doesn't feel like WG to me.
If someone likes a post, then post a note saying so.
The like button is waaaay too much Facebook. Obviously, I'm not a Facebook fan. In my opinion, get rid of the like button.
Regards,
Bob

I wonder if I can cheat and like my own posts
Durn, I just checked and the button doesn't show on my own posts. Im so screwed now..
-
I like to ride to a friends place, then use their equipment to like my own posts.
-
What a waste of bandwidth this has turned into. I don't really care if someone likes my post. I like my post, that's what matters to me. You don't like my post then just don't read it.
Could you get me a button on my posts that would get me a dollar from an individual's PayPal account every time they clicked it. I would really like that!

It's refreshing to see so much anti facebook sentiment here. The LIKE button on facebook has a different function however as it is linked to insidious ratings and who knows what. I hate that.
I am on another forum with LIKES and quite often I get a few. Being the eternal egotist I always get a warm glow when someone enjoys one of my rants. It's the opposite of being ignored and it does sweeten my feel for saying what I really think. Usually I'm trying to help someone with a technical problem so it's not all bad, but sometimes it's just an opinion that can be taken any way you like. [LIKE]
So as a simple acknowledgement which a simple straightforward person would imagine, I believe the LIKE button is just friendly and nice while I believe many facebook functions like LIKE are insidious methods for gathering of personal profiles which can be and often are used for nefarious purposes such as the 20 Million profiles stolen from Facebook to help advertising companies that target certain profiles for unfair advantage.
