Title: Help with mounting Solar PV panels
Post by: Idontwantapickle on June 28, 2018, 07:44:32 PM
I have a need to mount 2 panels for a simple off grid project on a sloped 12/12 roof.
I know that quite a few people here have solar installations so I'm hoping that you can point me toward a supplier for a reliable product that won't break the bank (Guzzi content). I see a lot of good products but very few suppliers for the man who needs only 6-8 pieces. I've been looking at flashed mounts with a stud into the rafter but if someone has experience with a better/different method I'm all ears!
TIA

Hunter

Are you looking for panels (modules)? Or mounting hardware (racking)? What about inverters, wiring, grounding gear etc?

Backwoods Solar is a good outfit -- I bought the rig for my van from them (two 140 watt modules, 1000w inverter, two 6v deep-cycle 250 ah batteries).

For a grid-tied home rig, a small local installer may be able to get wholesale pricing on the equipment and save you enough to have him do the (warrantied) work. That's what I found when it came time to price stuff on my own. Look for a qualified guy who works on his own and hires electrical and labor talent as needed, so you're not paying for overhead on his shop and sales staff.

Thanks guys,
Backwoods does look like a good source.
I'll reach out to some locals and see if there is a person like you describe Testarossa. That could be the way to go. Not to mention I'm not happy to be on a ladder any more. For some reason my wife always asks if I paid the life insurance bill when get the ladder out....... :thewife:
