Title: 850T. Should I get the U Joint rebuilt, if so by who?
Post by: NCAmother on July 07, 2018, 09:38:58 AM
I have a basket case 850T that has been sitting for 10 years.  I believe I should get the U Joint rebuilt, can anyone recommend a good shop/mechanic? Thanks,
Nate

What makes you think it needs rebuilt? Sloppy?

It's not sloppy, but I've been scared straight by some U joint failures.  So if its still tight, just use it? Thanks!

wouldn't hurt to take it apart and grease it. troublesome but worth it.

Use a new carrier bearing, it's on of those things that if you can see it, put in a new one

Same dog bit me. John did excellent work on the u-joint for my T3, fast turn around, priced very reasonable and I too got a bible.

Would not hesitate to use this service again.

do it yourself , you are looking at 20 dollar worth of parts , and it is a pretty simple procedure

start looking at agricultural parts, the bearings are used for power take off shafts.
as a example on my side of the pond:

On that subject : http://theujointstore.com/tus1m1.html
In my case, the 850T joint was  easy, comparable to all the automotive ones I have done over the past 30+ years. The T3/ LM/SP OTOH ,due to the difference in crosses  etc, was a PITA and I would either have John C. do it or purchase new

^^^^^I've had good service from the ujoint store..
Just the same, I wouldn't rebuild it unless I suspected it of "needing" it. U joints can run for a long time, and I'm lazy.  :boozing:
