Title: So Cal NAR Lake Henshaw October 19-21 Now with a ton-o-pictures
Post by: groundhog105 on July 12, 2018, 05:59:03 PM: Bill Ross and myself went to the Lake Henshaw resort today to set up dates for our 2nd annual NAR. The dates available are October 19-21 Friday they Sunday. I will be posting details on reservations for one of the cabins in the next couple days. We will be able to make reservations starting the 19 of July.
Details to follow. We had a great turnout last year and it was a lot of fun so put those dates on your calendar.

Please join us for the 2nd annual Lake Henshaw Not A Rally in Santa Ysabel, California. While a Moto Guzzi event, all makes of motorcycles are welcomed. The resort is located across the road from Lake Henshaw in North San Diego County , near Palomar Mountain. Cabins and camping are available, cabin reservations begin 90 days out and can be made starting July 19th. Reserve early, as they are also available to the general public. 17 total cabins available, they sleep 4 to 7 people and rates are between $86 and $97. Camping rates for 1 person and bike are $15 per night. Truck/trailer /RV sites go for between $27 and $32 per night depending on hookups etc.

For meals, the on site Round up Grill Restaurant opens at 7am and closes at 7 pm. We have reserved the clubhouse for a place to relax, visit, evening campfires ( conditions permitting ) and morning Coffee and light snacks on Sat and Sun morning.

Rides will be organized Saturday morning in front of the Store, check at the clubhouse for updates as to starting times and routes. The area has great roads in all directions.

The area is in a somewhat remote region,other nearby conveniences and restaurants can be found in Santa Ysabel, Julian, Ramona and Valley Center. Cell phones at the resort generally work, but no wifi. Henshaw Resort Store hours are 6am to 8pm on Friday and Saturday and Sunday 6am to 7pm.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and a real good time. We will arrive Friday mid afternoon and probably be cleared out by 11 am Sunday.

I'm not positive about being able to attend yet as I'm trying to setup a Lost Coast ride with a few buddys near the same time. But if that falls through this looks quite interesting.

Yes, there is camping nearby, and I am sure you could also find a hotel / motel in nearby Julian / Ramona, but it's cool to have a place right there on site! Just saying... :thumb: :cool:

We have arranged for dinner Saturday night at the Lake Henshaw restaurant. There is plenty of space and the food is far better than what we can cook. We will still have the club house to hang out at, drink beer, coffee. We will have it Friday thru Sunday morning

Hey Norm. Glad to hear your coming again this year. Were planning on having several ride routes this year with different pace settings and distances. It will be lots of fun.

The blue one is not looking good at the moment. Need a few parts to make it pretty again.

Post by: Scud on August 27, 2018, 08:05:15 PM: I did a nice loop yesterday. Highway 79 North from I-8 towards Lake Cuyamaca is freshly repaved and perfect. By the look of it, they will have both directions repaved in time for the NAR.

I would have to lead the loop on my Husky, though.

Advanced planning at a Guzzi NAR? Are you new here? :boozing:

There will probably be a couple of routes to the top of Palomar as well as some general fun road rides, but that's about the extent of any advanced planning. It will all be sorted out Friday night after a beer or two.

As for finding fun roads... leave the rally point in any direction, take any of the next several turns at random... there are no bad roads out there.

We are putting together several routes for a Saturday ride depending on the length and speed. Plan is to post them Friday and Saturday morning for people to choose which one to go on.

Thank you Sir! I don't need a dirt ride even if I'm on the Stelvio. I will be going to Baja to get that fix. My buddy has a 501 Husky, and he gets bored on Stelvio friendly dirt roads anyway.

I did the dirt and street thing at my NAR, and was underwhelmed with the numbers on the dirt ride. It was fun, but everyone who participated was local anyway.

Wow, I leave in a month! Cool, thanks for putting this together!

From Ramona to Santa Ysabel all new pavement, also, Dudleys bakery to Julian smooth new paving. Julian to lake Cuyameca good shape, & over the Laguna mnts. (Little windy yesterday ) nice road conditions. Just road to lake henshaw yesterday & there were mostly harleys & a few other bikes. Have fun out there. Also the hideout has been closed for quite a while, but when I stop by, they keep saying "it will open soon".

Wednesday before the NAR I have to be in Honolulu for a business meeting and the Tuesday after the NAR for the State High School Air Rifle Championships. Went into second fine, but no third. The toe/heel shifter was all the way down. Tapped it lightly forward and then was able to grab third. Broken return spring on a 5 speed trans. PITA to get to.

Might take the Eldo, most likely will be the EV.

That is a bummer, and odd indeed. But I do like the typo "dezd", and I believe it should be adapted for everyday use.

The rally was a blast - Much thanks to our gracious hosts, my hellos to everyone I met or re-met there. Much fun had hanging out in front of the store, meeting people and admiring the machine parade. The riding was great too.

What year and how many miles? GP can be pretty slow but they seem to know their stuff, good luck.

Yes, our Cottonwood NAR is always the FIRST weekend in May...Look for our flyer after the first of the year. :wink: :thumb:

I have personally ridden many times in 110-114 degrees...with a full coverage helmet and gear...and I can attest...it is absolutely "DREADFUL!!"

One has to stop and hydrate about every 30-45 minutes...

All my plans of smelling the roses went out the window.. and it became a test of endurance. Wet down shirt under my gear, hunkered behind that great fairing, and in 20 minutes it would be dry again. Two 12 hour days of 115 degrees is not to be trifled with ..

People "DIE" every year hiking in the summer, around the Verde Valley because they did carry enough water...
