Well, after picking up one of the bikes out of Larry Kleins storage unit, selling my house, moving, renting a place, getting married, buying a house and moving again, I'm finally in a place with a pole barn and some room to work on it.
I thought someone here had pointed me to a PDF repair manual and I thought I had downloaded it, but can't seem to find the original or the download on my tablet.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

Found one on manuals lib app.
Edit. Still need one. Can't read the wiring diagram, it's too blurry

Mr. Greg Bender's site has a pdf manual for this bike I think.

Near the bottom of the list on the link above.

Bob Sharp will send you a disc with pdf repair manual and other data. Send him a PM, his user name is LeRoy

Congratulations on getting one of the bikes from the Larry Klein auction. There were some good finds to be had. I was there and had to have my trigger finger on hold a few times.
With respect to manuals, if you send me a PM with your complete mailing address, I'll send you a CD with all the factory manuals (Maintenance, Parts, Owner's) as well as copies of period ads and road test, fix-it tips and repair procedures and a lot more. No charge, shipped world wide.
The same offer is open to any Wildguzzi member, anywhere in the world. I also have model-specific CDs for most Tonti-based models from the mid-'70s to the early 90s. Just send me a PM with your mailing details. Same terms apply: free & sent worldwide.

LeRoy, I just want to (hijack this thread and) say thanks- that is a very nice gesture on your part.

Just because this young man has not introduced himself in awhile, I will remind you that he is one of Lyle Robertson's grandchildren. Lyle was Larry's father in law while he was married. Lyle was also a loyal GT MOTORS customer and Guzzi rider. All of this to say this young man is Larry's nephew and when we met to deliver his grandfather's bike, impressed me as a typical Guzzi rider/owner which is to say an atypical human and thus an overall good guy. I really want to see this bike up and running! Good luck!!

Thanks Leroy, pm coming.

Man I miss all of them!
And just for a little clarification for the story:
The bike wasn't part of one of the auctions. Paul saw it in one of the storage units of Larry's and told me he had grandpa's bike and he wanted me to have it. After a few conversations I was really confused as to which bike it was because grandpa had a few Moto guzzis and many others.
After picking up the Guzzi something wasn't sitting right with me. The tour box was wrong (ok, could have been swapped). The lights were wrong (again, could have been swapped). Extra stickers on fairing (could have been added). I swear it was the wrong year - the one I picked up was a 76 and to the best of my memory Grandpa had a 75 Eldorado and a 80 V1000. Thought my grandfather's had more miles on it too.
I got to digging around on the bike and found a registration. Found the previous owners wife on Facebook and contacted her about it. She confirmed she and husband owned it. I talked to him and he owned it all thru the eighties, so it is definitely not my grandfather's Guzzi. However, it is about as close to my grandfather's as I will get so I'm rolling with that.
As I said in the opening post, I haven't had a lot of time or the space to work on it, but I do now! Well, I have the space, time is another issue. Just south of Owosso if anyone is bored....
Where I'm at now:
The previous registered owner said he had sold it to a friend. The friend never changed the registration. The friend called and said he was having electrical issues and couldn't start it. That must be when it made it to Larry.
Fuel lines were dry rotted so I replaced them.
I hooked a lawn mower battery up to test it. I have nothing when I turn ignition on. There is also a minor mess of wires hanging from under the faring, and in the battery compartment. I'm tempted to remove the faring and aftermarket lights to totally eliminate them from the picture
Thanks again for the help everyone. I'm sure I'll be on here more than the past year asking questions.
Fwiw I also have a 77 Moto Guzzi Robin moped Grandpa bought new from Larry. The fuel petcock valve got bumped and broken in the move to Owosso. I think I have one coming, should know tomorrow. Used to ride it around town often before the house sold and the temporary renting. I'm sure I'll be back on it cruising Owosso as soon as I get the valve

Stepchild,
The misidentification of your grandfather's bike is on me. I can't believe I made that mistake. Larry and I discussed the bikes in the storage units many times, I guess I should have taken notes. I humbly apologize for my mistake. That was the most complete of the converts in the storage units and I just knew it had to be Lyle's. Many things got shuffled around in the storage units, it is entirely possible that the contents of a saddlebag could have been moved from one bike to another. Did the numbers on the included paperwork actually match the bike? Differing lights and trunk probably prove the mistaken ID anyway. I am so sorry!

No problem at all, don't worry about it.
The paper registration matched the license plate and Vin.

Small step in the right direction
I have power - lights and horn work. No crank. From talking to the last registered owner last year - the guy he sold it to wasnt able to start it and that maybe why it ended up at Larry's.
I've got a few loose wires in the battery area that aren't helping my confusion any.
Park light is flashing. It's been a looooooong time since I've ridden one of these. Is that normal?
-
Run a wire from Batt + and touch it on the starter solenoid spade and it will crank.
-
Usually failure to crank is caused by Voltage drop through the ignition switch or at the fuse
http://www.thisoldtractor.com/guzzi007/schematics/1978_V1000_SP.gif
Clean the ignition switch and check that you get full 12 Volts at the fuses with the key on, this may be all it needs but for reliable cranking there is a simple modification.
Look at the start relay (23) The brown wire on 85/87 has to carry at least 30 Amps all the way thru fuse 1 and the ignition switch.
If you move the brown wire to just 85, the coil only needs 100 millamps.
The inrush current to terminal 87 is 40 - 45 Amps so feed 87 from a new in-line fuse direct from the battery.

You'll have to figure out where the loose wires go before doing anything else. The excellent wiring diagram KR posted will help with that. I have two G5s at my disposal to take pictures of the wiring if it would help. It's pretty straightforward, though.

The Park light is activated by the sidestand switch - the idea being when the sidestand is deployed the bike won't start. Should still crank though.

Thanks for all the replies.
Working a lot of overtime right now, and getting settled into our new place we moved into middle of June.
I will update when I've tried the suggestions.
Got the manuals from Leroy but I don't have a disk drive. Shirley does. We copied over to a USB so I have them now. Thanks again.

Not sure all this wiring is stock. I need to get to a FedEx Kinkos or something to print the wiring diagram because my printer doesn't print it legible. I have a rats nest of wire nuts under the forks. A black and maybe brown that look stock but I haven't made out in the diagram (but I've been viewing on my phone), they are near the right cylinder. The starter switch on the right handle is a mess. I've jumped and bypassed it with no luck.

Aaarrrg! That's a sign of a shaved ape "mechanic" for sure.

Nope, that sure ain't stock. Looks like the PO cleaned the hardware store out of Marretts. I think someone must have cobbleb a non-original headlight bucket and wiring into the Guzzi harness. Looks like you might want to avail yourself of a complete new harness from G Bender.
Only thing I can identify for sure is the rubber cap and two wires for the fuel level sensor in the first photo.

A new harness from Greg Bender will be the best investment one could make for this bike. Great project, keep us posted. :thumb:
