Title: Twisted Sisters Ride
Post by: mjptexas on August 02, 2018, 09:40:25 PM
The Mrs. had laid out a full day of sys admin work for me so I decided to run for the hills (literally). I left before 6 and five hours/200 miles later I was at the starting point:

First leg  was 337 west to Camp Wood:

There several great vistas (like this one) on this leg:

I've always admired this house.  It must have a hundred mile view from that ridge:

The next leg is just north of Camp Wood:

The southern part of 335 isn't terribly exciting, but there are a few interesting bluffs:
The north end is much more interesting, as the road winds along the side of the bluff:

I collect Historical Markers when I ride.  This one was on 335:

335 ends at state highway 41. You head east to catch the next leg.  Note that the speed limits on state highways in West Texas are usually 75 mph.  It's best to meet or exceed the limit if you don't want to be run over.  The north end of 336:

Watch out for road blocks:

This is the first time I've seen illuminated warning signs.  They are solar powered, and have sensors that trigger lights when you approach:

This is one of my favorite views on 336:

Another Historical Marker on the southern end of 336:

And the final leg is 337 east, towards home:

May favorite vista on this road:

480 miles round trip, 14 hours, 10 on the bike.  Worth every minute of it.

Now you've got me kicking myself for living so close (Lockhart) and never doing the ride!

Thanks for reminding me to head out that way. I don't know why I always feel the need to go to Arkansas for a week when we've got some nice roads pretty close. Your pictures make me miss my Black Devil. I had considered buying the 2017 that AF1 had on sale a few months ago. Safe to assume you snatched that bike up?

Looks like those chip/seal roads will eat up tire tread. Price of enjoying the scenery I suppose. LOL!

Chip/seal roads are endemic in Texas.  No way around them unless you just want to run up and down the Interstate.

I rode all those roads on my concours 1400 but didn't stop to take in the sights because I was riding from Florida to New Mexico and detoured to ride the 3 sisters.  A check mark on my list of roads to ride before I leave.

Thanks for the added details of the area.
