I'm in the midst of a moped rebuild (LML "Vespa") and need smaller quantities of electrical wire in various colors, to repair hacks in the wiring harness. I was wondering if the group had suggestions for sources that will allow me to avoid purchasing lots of large spools that I will never use up. Amazon has some collections of automotive wire of different colors, but they appear to be "copper-clad aluminum" and would still leave me with 1,000 feet of wire if I buy the package that includes brown (a color I need). I would prefer to stay with all copper, though I am not sure why I have that preference. Also, I don't need 1,000 feet of wire.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Buy a junk wiring harness from a motorcycle salvage yard. It is cheap and the colors will match plus you will wind up with useable sheathing.

I strip the harnesses from junk SUVs. They have lots of wires and long runs of it.

McMaster Carr sells in small quantities.

British Wiring. I think they have a minimum, but lots of choices re gauge and color.

The best bet is britishwiring.com. All the gauges, colors, stripes you could want, by the meter.

Thanks guys! Very helpful.

Local auto sparky ask nicely if they'd sell some stuff off their stock normally its not an issue but you'll pay whatever they ask, they've done you a favor you are not in a position to haggle.

Don't know where you're at yackee, but here, the local big box home improvement supply stores will sell almost any type of wire by the foot.
