Just heard that Aretha Franklin entered hospice care tonight. That's sad news indeed
-
It is indeed. Her life, at least the early parts, were far from happy. Pregnant at 13 I believe? Then a series of ups and downs in life but she was an excellent role model in many ways.
Then there is that voice! Golly we're lucky to have had decent recording equipment for the best part of a century!
Jude and I have been a bit morbid on this trip. Whenever we think of some person, famous or not, from our 'Youth' we tend to google them.
Far too many of the, are dead or bonkers.........

The voice!
I'm thankful for her music ---- from when she was young and thin --- weren't we all....

Yeah, me too, Dusty.. I didn't realize what it was for a long time, but lost the fire in my gut to play, listen, etc.

You probably said the same thing when Johann Sebastian Bach passed away!

Oh, yeah. We'll always remember the queen of soul.
-
I can hear this coming out of my transistor radio tuned to CKLW in Detroit:
"R-E-S-P-E-C-T"
The queen of soul indeed. "Just a little bit"

Aretha can form a duet with Mary Jane Jones .

Sad news but at least we got to be there for most of her life and still have her music which will live for a very long time.

One of my favorite scenes from the Blues Brothers movie.

Weird Al Yankovic would do H-O-S-P-I-C-E (Too soon I know) love her music! Great in the Blues brothers. We bought tickets to see her here a couple of years ago, but she had to cancel. The Pointer Sisters filled in, they put on a really good show :thumb:

yes, just read that. The suffering is over. For her, and all those that cared about her.
-
Another one of the greats gone.
Shame.
-
She will be missed. One of the greats!

Chain, chain, chain, chain of fools...
I saw an interview with her 'I'm a diva when I need to be a diva. Otherwise I'm the lady next door'.
Back in the '90s Pavarotti was supposed to perform Nessun Dorma at the Grammys. At the last minute, he couldn't make it. Who stepped in? Aretha Franklin. She had something like 30 minutes notice and delivered a great performance. A little R*E*S*P*E*C*T for an awesome talent. RIP Ms. Franklin.

Nothing but respect from me.. RIP Aretha.. have a good trip.
-
RIP Vanessa el Rio. WildGuzzi members did not give you respect. And you had a great voice.
