Title: Man Cave Art - lets see what you got
Post by: canuck750 on September 07, 2018, 07:32:12 PM
I found a bunch of reproduction vintage race posters on Ebay, mostly Ebay UK, a frame shop in my building dry mounted them on foam core for me, cheap and bright.

Dresses the joint up if I do say so myself.

My wife thinks I am getting close to being motorcycle crazy, personally I think I passed that line a long time ago

Damnit, lost a long detailed post.

Reader's Digest version:

My Cave is not nearly as nice or well thought out or even spacious. My "art" is therefore suitably modern dorm.

It's a weird compilation of:

* Cheap Van Gogh prints (one reverse)
* Genealogical map of Ireland
* Old Harley calendar pages
* Two book covers of titles I wrote for Chilton (my first and my Motorcycle Handbook)
* A piece of a Harley bike crate from the 90's
* A route 66 sign
* Photos of Chilton and Chilton related race cars, including an SCCA Rally BMW I crewed for a bit.
* One pledge paddle a little bro made for me in the shape of my 70 Olds Rally 350.
* Fraternity composite
* Other old photos.
* An owl my then 5 y/o daughter made for me

I dunno man.........you really should consider getting rid of that old stuff and getting some bikes with some computer gizmos. I can throw some tie downs in the F-150 and head for the great white north and pick that stuff up for you, just say the word.........

  I keep the running bikes in a large two car attached garage....No trucks/Jeeps in the garage unless they are being serviced..

   (https://i.imgur.com/vecDPaIh.jpg)

  My shop in in the 1000 square foot drive in basement...lots of hand tools, lathe, hydraulic press, Mig , Tig , oxy torch,and other stuff to turn good bikes into junk...

   (https://i.imgur.com/hNfhHOZh.jpg)

  My wife has her woman cave with 11 sewing machines....she also has a 12x24 shed in the rear of the house for her Kubota Diesel tractor and property maintenance equipment...

  25 years ago we lived in a old farm house that we totally refinished..No heated garage so the living room served as a shop..

I live in a suburban starter home. (We been starting for 30 years  :grin: )  Wifey ain't fussy about my bikes, but has one rule: her car gotta fit in the garage. That leaves my half of a 2 car garage to fit in tools, parts, manuals, supplies, and bikes. I can squeeze 5 middlin' size bikes in that space. or 4 bikes, one with sidecar. Not much room left for arty stuff:

I like beer, hence the beer 'art'

    This was supposed to be the boat bay. However, when we built the house the wife took the back 6 feet of the bay, walled it off and turned it into a walk-in pantry from the kitchen.  I needed a space for reloading and had a 5 foot in length and 12 feet wide spot behind the boat sperated by a poly sheet and heated by a small heater. Made due with that for about 4 years but kept complaining about my situation with condensation on stuff and finally the wife and mother in-law (I kid you not) did the floor, painted the walls etc. etc.

    All I did was make the wall with the barn doors and cut the tin for the walls. The reloading back room is heated, closed off by the barn doors, covered with a loft a friend made to hold all the camping, backpacking and fishing gear.  Has a table and chairs and a small bar off to the side for when buddies come over and we hang out. Put in vintage Technics 404 Receiver hooked up to an older powered Yamaha sub-woofer that goes down to 20Hz with (again) vintage Infinity Studio monitors.  I've been known to get out of control with the volume when Eminence Front or similar tunes  are being played.  Turned out pretty nice considering my wife had no plan going into it.

No pics, but I've got a Metal Guzzi sign, and a bunch of reproduction movie posters... all from the Bikesploitation era, as well as a bunch of reproduction anti-drug propaganda posters from the "reefer madness" era... I find them amusing.

The Flying Wrench Garage doesn't really look all that cool.  It's got my two automobiles parked in there + a sufficient cramming of motorcycles.  I do have some really cool actual artwork in there, though.
I've got this really cool velvet cockfight over one of my garage bay doors, a piece brought back from Mexico by my Grandfather.  I've also got this cool transfer a buddy of mine did for me of a concert poster with some kind of cool motorcycle on it in a pinball motif.

The "man cave" and garage areen't necessarily the same thing at my place. The garage is mostly decorated withmotorcycles.

My home office gets the bulk of the non-wheeled décor and collection:

My Man Cave Art is always changing with the changing bikes.  If I can I negotiate the Dealer poster with the bike and hang it up behind the parking spot.

(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1311/13773538/24816749/413997323.jpg)

(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1311/13773538/24816749/413997322.jpg)

Or have a theme with each bike's area.

(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1311/13773538/24816749/413997325.jpg)

(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1311/13773538/24816749/413997321.jpg)

I got some of these framed dealer posters free when the local dealership was going out of business

(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1311/13773538/24816749/413997329.jpg)

And sometimes spare parts are the Man Cave art, like this Vulcan tour pack lid.

(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1311/13773538/24816749/413997324.jpg)

Sometimes the Man Cave gets a little cluttered.

(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1311/13773538/24816749/413997328.jpg)

Even my trailer gets man cave art, as well as my home office.
