I have lusted for a Buccaneer for almost a year, never having seen one in person, tho. They are all over youtube, also badged in Nepal as Mondials! They have been advertised in Las Vegas for about $2500, which is pretty cheap for a 250 fun bike. After calling 3 SSR dealers (none closer than 60 miles from me), no one stocked them or would even order for me. And, the reviews pretty much agree with you, in that some of t ahe components are early Chinese quality. They do look cool, but I have talked myself out of it. I have a new Honda CB300R coming next week to keep my V7III Special company.
JaCoh,
There are indeed some quality problems, but the worst one is "early Japanese," not Chinese -- the vibration due to the 60 degree V twin sans counterbalancer in Yamaha's design! On the whole I'm more impressed with the quality than otherwise.
I don't know of any real, published reviews except the one from motorcycle.com. But there is a favorable new video ride-around "review" by a senior editor at Motorcyclist that's worth watching, here:

What else can you point me to?
That Honda 300 is a world apart from the Buccaneer 250, with water cooling, four valves, and 27(?) horsepower or so from a single cylinder. Not to mention the adjustability of the suspension. The brakes were called "wooden" in a review, but that's the only thing negative I can remember.
You might be a world apart from me, too. I like a bike I can work on and maintain pretty easily myself. I also dislike the angular styling I see on your new bike. What surprises me, I guess, is that you loved the idea of the Buccaneer and then moved to a Honda. That's something I wouldn't have done, but it's nice to see that we share some tastes.
I was lucky to find a dealer that fell for my spiel when I showed up unannounced one day asking for a bike they'd never heard of. They turned out to be an extremely responsive, trustworthy bunch.
I'm thrilled with my bike, but please don't ask me to race you on that Honda!
