I will go through it mechanically but the paint and trim is just too nice to touch for a 60 year old motorcycle!

Very nice. Good catch.

Very cool, congrats!

Jim - that is a really cool little bike. Good luck with the restoration.

I am going to try real, real hard to NOT restore it!
I will check the brakes, wheel bearings etc.. but I think it would be wrong to repaint it.
Going to see if I can get it to run on the weekend, previous owner had it running but said he could not get it to hold an idle. Can't be too much to the little two stroke, I get a kick out of the dead simple choke !
-
Very cool. You got it bad! :)

Congrats on the Cardellino. Those are bikes that a lot of lemon and olive farmers used back in the day, there were quite a few still in circulation even back in the late 70's and 80's in my area in Sicily when I lived there - If I had known, I would've bought them all!
Appears to have a new top end? Also, if that has the crankshaft lobe rotary intake valve, it could have a scratched case/port seal causing the idling issue. Not sure of that's the case on that one or if that is how the intake is on those or not (intake pipe looks like it goes to the case, not cylinder)
If that is the case, you may need to get that resurfaced and machined smooth for it to hold idle.
Good luck.

I wouldn't change a thing, looks perfect the way it is.

What is under the round "Moto Guzzi" cover?

What is under the round "Moto Guzzi" cover?
I guessing a "flywheel magneto" - flywheel, generator windings, points, condenser.

It has some serious leverage on the clutch lever.
