Does everything else work? Unplug sidestand switch. It's on front downtube.

Stock Seimans relays? Try swapping around.

Bet this is the fix. Sometimes just unplugging, then replugging works. Pick up a spare or two when you can.

The horn relay is always spare
Is the fuel pump doing its 3 second prime when you turn the key on?

This schematic shows a 15M but don't you have the old P8 ECU?
Check the plug hasn't come loose.
Do you hear the petcock click open?
Referring to Carl Allisons schematic
The power relay (50) picks up for a few seconds when you turn the key on, strictly based on time
Then it turns on again as the engine turns over based on the timing sensor (56) picking up pulses
A small 12 Volt lamp attached to pin 87 of the relay will tell you volumes about what's going on
You haven't had the battery out or disconected?
This is the layout of the relays under the side cover.

You need to have power at the ECU relay and the petcock, I would stuff a wire in between fuse 1 and fuse 2, this will hot wire the ECU rekay
BTW the light I penciled in is a troubleshooting aid, lets you know if the ECU relay is powered up.
Good Luck, keep us posted.
There must be help near there, how can we get in touch?

all of the above and I have had fuses just disintegrate from being old. the relays and battery terminals need to be cleaned at least every two years.
next you have a pickup on the flywheel and on the cam chain cover. most likely one if full of junk. pull and clean. be careful you don't loose the spacer washers on the front one. next spray some electronic cleaner down the ignition switch. protect the front fender with a rag first. it could have just worn out or fallen apart. then pull the chrome cover in front of the gas tank off. there are connectors in there that might have melted.

Tom,
What was the problem? We missed eating your cheese at the Okie rally. Sorry you ran into problems and missed the three day rain event.

Timing sensor dirty or failed?

Timing sensor dirty or failed?
I agree Wayne but do you think i can convince owners to put a small lamp on the relays, not a chance.
A lamp on the power relay 87 would not light if the sensor failed.
That was the first thing I did on my first Guzzi, an LED on every relay.

The 98 also has a diagnostic check lamp under the seat that should throw a trouble code for the sensors.
Early on I disconnected one to see how it works. The manual which has been mentioned before is available from Pyro Dan over at http://dpguzzi.com/efiman.pdf

I missed the rally but not the rain and40 degree ride back to WI.Gave the cheese and sausage to the shop guys.I will be going back to ride it home whenever it is fixed.Looking on the bright side we could have made it to the rally and had to ride twice as far to get home. There is a BMW rally Nov.9 in bixby,MO.so might stop ther if weather is decent.

What, still not fixed?
