Title: Guzziology now available as an Amazon Kindle book
Post by: Double E on October 24, 2018, 08:14:41 PM
Guzziology is now available as an electronic Kindle book from Amazon for $10USD.

https://www.amazon.com/Guzziology-Dave-Richardson-ebook/dp/B07JLKNP55/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1540429566&sr=8-3&keywords=guzziology

For those (like me) who never got around to purchasing a hard copy from Moto International.

Altho I’m not a fan of non-paper books, Guzziology in any form is well worth having.

Hopefully everyone is aware that Moto International, I am told owned by Dave Richardson, has closed.

If anybody buys a Kindle version, and feels that their hard copy is now expendable, I would love to have one (an actual book) that I can put my greasy fingers on.

Really hard to write notes on the margins of a Kindle book.

Dave sold MI more than a year ago while it was still going well.

This is true, it is harder. But you can create bookmarks, highlight passages, make notes, and create flashcards with the Kindle app.  I too would prefer to have a hard copy. but until they are again available, the Kindle is a viable option. I am glad that it is now available.

That is very nice. I already have the latest paper version, I think so at least. Version 8.3

But have bought the Kindle version just now. It is nice to have on hand on the road or when you just have to check something away from home. It is also easier to bring the kindle on a plane than dragging the paper version with you [emoji16]

Forgive my technical ignorance but can it be read on anything other than a Kindle ?

Yes; a Kindle program/app is available from Amazon at no cost for desktop and phones in additional to the on-purpose Kindle device.

I buy Kindle formatted books to read on my iPad, no problem.  I also have the V7 service manual on the iPad just in case I need that info while on a trip.

Is the digital version searchable?  That would be one great advantage to having a digital copy in addition to hard copy.  I see it is available for free if you have 'Kindle Unlimited'?  Can that be right?

I use the Kindle App for Mac. There is a Search function on the left-hand navigation bar.  An example: searching on "Throttle" returned 100 results.  Searching on "Throttle Body" returned 33 results.

I believe that "Kindle Unlimited" is a subscription service for $10/month. Great if you read or listen to a lot of books on a Kindle device. Not a good deal if you just buy a couple books a year.

I just found out that the guzziology is not compatible with a Kindle paperwhite, so if you also have one of those, then you can't read guzziology on it. Should still work on the Kindle for windows and for Android

I would prefer it in pdf format.  Kindle is clumsy, possibly because I don't know how to drive it.

Tried to print it from Kindle to a pdf but all the formatting went for a crap.  If someone can produce a pdf that might look like the original book, I would be interested.

This would defeat the purpose of the author selling hard copies. You're not meant to be able to print Kindle books.

Ur.. Umm....

You might take a look at AniceSoft EPUB Converter and ePUBeeDRM Removal.  I know there are other eBook converters (Any eBook Converter from anvsoft.com, or e-bookconverter.net) but I haven't tried them.

Convert to MOBI for reading on Kindle readers, or PDF for reading on anything.

Check and see if your library has a copy in electronic form.  They usually download in EPUB as one of the options.  This makes it easy to convert to MOBI or PDF.

The problem with the Paperwhite is that they don't do images or drawings.  Bummer.

What are you using to read it?

It doesn't work on my kindle paperwhite but it does work just fine on my Kindle app for windows.

The paperwhite does show pictures by the way. But no audio and no moving pictures.

Interesting - perhaps it is due to the conversion process, going from ePub to MOBI that kills them, although I don't recall any illustrations in any of the Kindle editions I've downloaded.  I do get the cover image, but nothing in the text itself.

I'll have to dig some more to find out why that is.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what years and/or model motorcycles are covered by this ?  Does this replace a shop manual ?

It covers big blocks and small blocks up to the first V7 small blocks, but not so much after that. The new E-book is the 9th version and might cover some of the newer models better. Haven't had time to check it out in detail. It is a very good compliment to the shop manual but isn't a full replacement.

Shop manuals can be found on Gregory Benders site thisoldtractor.com.

Mine shows pictures just fine, also on PDF's and MOBI files from external sources like the Gutenberg project.

I've already purchased three hard copies over the years.  I like the idea of carrying workshop manuals on my Surface Pro, and Guzziology will complement them.  Just gotta get my head around Kindle.

I just received my copy of the newest Guzziology. Hot off the presses. Printing date says Oct. 28, 2018. It covers everything up until now including Grisos, Norges, 1400's and the newest small blocks. There is a large section on fuel injection that Micha wrote. I also have a totally grease covered first version, and a moderately grease covered version that has my v11 Lemans in it. I got this one because it has my Griso in it and  I suspect that this will be the last update ever, since Dave is now retired and out of the business. I am going to try to keep this version clean. It no longer has the coil binding, but is bound like a regular paperback book. It has the size and feel of a big city phone book. If you work on your bikes, it is invaluable.

Funny thing is that I actually read my copy from cover to cover when I got it, though going lightly on the small blocks, but I rarely refer to it now. Learned a lot from it and glad I have it. It's not  a workshop manual.

I agree.  More like a Guzzi bible.

I found it close to useless on anything modern. I had an 00 Cali Jackal and 06 Breva 1100 at the time.

Edit - to clarify. I'm sure it's a good resource for someone restoring an old Guzzi.

I'm not convinced it's useful to anyone with a modern Guzzi.

I'm probably a bit biased because of my line of work, but the rambling nature is unpleasant and less useful to me than a more traditional format service manual.
